The Attitude helps lift Dodge in February.
The new light vehicle market in Mexico surges back up 28% year-on-year in February to 101,911 sales, lifting the year-to-date tally up 24.1% to 196,325. Yet this is still below the 104,328 and 209,160 units of pre-pandemic February 2020. Nissan (+28.1%) matches the market to easily top the brands charts at 19.1% share, well above Chevrolet (+7.6%) weak at 12.3% share. Volkswagen (+21.6%) and Kia (+4.6%) overtake Toyota (+10.6%) to rank #3 and #4 respectively. Dodge (+259.6%) posts a surreal year-on-year gain and is up 8 spots on January to land at #9, its highest ranking since January 2017. MG (+51.2%) and Mazda (+39%) also shine in the remainder of the Top 10 while below, Ram (+116.1%), Seat (+228.7%), Changan (+248.1%) and Fiat (+393.5%) stand out. Newcomer Chirey (Chery) remains at an excellent 11th place.
Model-wise, former leader the Nissan Versa (+46.4%) climbs back up three spots on January to lodge its 2nd win in the past three months. It advances to #2 year-to-date below last month’s best-seller the Nissan NP300 (+40.1%), down to #2 for the month. The Chevrolet Aveo (-12.4%) is down by double-digit on February 2022 when it led the charts but is up four spots on last month to #3. Leader over the Full Year 2022, the Kia Rio (+14.5%) is a little shy at #4 and ranks #3 year-to-date. Below a struggling Nissan March (-17.1%), the MG 5 (+81.6%) slices its January ranking in two to #6, while the Nissan Sentra (+42.1%) and VW Virtus (+249.1%) both soar year-on-year. The Dodge Attitude (+51525%!) , a rebadged Mitsubishi Mirage G4, justifies the brand’s surge and places #10.
