Drone footage reveals Tesla Cybertruck’s monumental wiper

A man has used his drone to capture video of the Tesla Cybertruck’s huge front windscreen wiper in action while wind tunnel testing.

The video, taken by Brad Sloan and published on YouTube, shows the wiper covering most of the windscreen with the exception of the top portion of the passenger’s side.

The wiper looks almost like a parking barrier, given it’s large enough to cover the windscreen of a vehicle expected to be at least 2m wide.

When in its rest position, it sits upright on the left-hand side of the windscreen.

Tesla has been struggling with the wiper blade for its upcoming Cybertruck with CEO Elon Musk posting on Twitter in 2021, “The wiper is what troubles me most. No easy solution. Deployable wiper that stows in front trunk would be ideal, but complex.”

Previous spy photos of the Cybertruck appear to show a near-ready vehicle in the final stage of testing before production begins later this year.

In recent months some changes have been revealed including an oval-shaped steering wheel, the addition of triangular side mirrors and updated bumpers.

That’s not all that is expected to change, with Musk saying that compared with the initial concept “the specs and the pricing will be different”.

Tesla released specifications on its US website in 2021 but has since removed the details.

According to the site, the Cybertruck is set to offer 800km of range, 6.4t towing capacity and a 2.9 second sprint to 60mp/h (96 km/h).

The site also specified a choice of single-motor rear-wheel drive and dual- and tri-motor all-wheel drive powertrains.

Production is expected to start between June to August in Texas with mass production to kick off in 2024.
