Tesla has been spied testing its upcoming facelifted Model 3, with drone footage capturing a sneak peak of its updated interior.
A YouTube video posted by Caliber197 of a camouflaged Model 3 shows changes to the interior that mirror the Model X and Model S, both of which have recently been discontinued from Australia.
It appears the steering wheel will employ a new bottom spoke design, similar to that in the Tesla Semi. Tesla also appears to have removed the transmission shifter that is mounted behind the steering wheel.
The driver testing the upcoming model appears to use the centre display screen to change the vehicle from park to reverse. This feature appears in the Model S and Model X.
Other changes that Tesla may look to include on the upcoming Model 3 are indicators and wipers that are accessible via the central touchscreen display.
In the Model S and Model X, these can also be adjusted via controls on their steering yoke.
A photo has leaked previously of what appears to be the Tesla Model 3 in China. It shows an updated headlight design that is similar to the Model S.
Chinese outlet Yicai reports Tesla China denied the updated Model 3 will enter mass production in Shanghai on June 1, however the company didn’t confirm when it would enter production.
According to a Twitter post by account Teslascope, Tesla may also move away from its current seating design. However, based on the drone footage it’s too hard to tell.
Not A Tesla App reports the Model 3 will feature a single camera in the centre of its front bumper plus two new cameras, one on each side of the vehicle.
These will reportedly be five-megapixel cameras with an anti-glare coating, superior to the 1.2-megapixel units in the current car. The updated model will also reportedly upgrade from the Hardware 3 supercomputer to Hardware 4.
