We have returned for another edition of “Home on the Range,” where we discuss all things hunting, ranching, camping, and living off of the land. One topic of controversy in my household is camping. Some of you might fall into a camp similar to mine where I have lived in a tent for weeks on end while hunting, extremely primitive living standards, and simultaneously pretty miserable yet memorable all the same. Furthermore, I have hung off the side of a tree for 16 hours (before the age of cellphones) archery hunting – swaying in the wind freezing my arse off on a cold Minnesota winter day to hunt whitetail deer. I’ve roughed it. Been there, done that. My amazing wife I affectionately call my butterfly. Adventurous spirit, beautiful heart, and wanting to explore wherever the breeze may take her. She loves camping! I fully believe I’ve tortured myself more than her because I’m no longer a fan of camping. I will explore the ends of the Earth for 24 – 48 hours while miserably cold and hungry, but I want a bed at the end of the day. So, when my now 7-month pregnant wife (who loves coffee) wanted to go camping, I offered that we should go glamping instead. Thankfully, she agreed and it afforded me the perfect opportunity to review the YETI Rambler French Press in my possession. With that, let’s dive in!

Field Use – YETI Rambler French Press 34 Oz
Now, onto the glamping, camping, and coffee drinking portion of this review. My wife, Andrea, and I headed to northern Minnesota where I would be black bear hunting in September and found a magnificent glamping site in North Shore Camping Co. Shameless plug for them as it was an amazing stay, and they aren’t paying or giving me anything to say that. Check North Shore Camping Co out, you’ll love ’em!
We stayed in a kung tält – a Swedish phrase for a 2-person tent. I thought it was similar to the idea of a yurt, but even more comfortable and better accommodations. After Andrea and I spent a full afternoon setting out black bear bait sites in the Boundary Waters Canoe Area Wilderness, we retreated to our kung tält for night. We awoke well-rested from our glamp site accommodations, but being the avid coffee lovers that we are, we were anxiously awaiting some nature-crafted French Press coffees.
The Brewing Process – YETI Rambler French Press 34 Oz
To get this show on the road, my thoughtful wife had pre-ground some fresh coffee that we brought with on our glamping trip. So, we simply poured in about 1/2 of a small Mason jar’s worth of grounds into our 34 ounce French Press.
Then, we set about boiling some water with our Jetboil.
With some water brought to a light boil, we then poured in enough water to bring the fresh coffee grounds nearly to the top of the YETI Rambler French Press.
We let the coffee grounds steep and do their thang for roughly 3 – 4 minutes before we looked to play with the lid and plunger. When we believed the coffee grounds marinated long enough, we attached the Twist-to-Lock lid and began to plunge the coffee grounds. The plunger moved slowly as we gently pushed because the GroundsControl Filter has a tight seal on the inside of the French Press.
Finally, it was time to enjoy our French Press coffee! The GroundsControl Filter did a great job because there was none of that classic “chew” or dirt that you get with the ol’ campfire percolator we are used to using while camping. Additionally, I found it was a cleaner, smoother coffee taste (probably from the lack of rogue coffee grounds I’m used to while camping).
Departing Thoughts – YETI Rambler French Press 34 Oz
So, what are my final thoughts on the YETI Rambler French Press 34 ounce model we reviewed here today?… Overall, I am impressed. I’m not a big “French Press” guy. I simply love coffee and need some caffeine to function most days. The $110 MSRP I thought was a bit high, but after getting some use out of the Rambler French Press both while glamping and in our house for the past 3 months, I believe it is worth it if you love yourself a good French Press.
My wife, Andrea, had some really good points of feedback as well. We cannot overstate how well the GroundsControl Filter performed for us. Normally, French Press mugs have some type of metal mesh filter that breaks, cracks, bends, and deforms over time. Inevitably allowing in coffee grounds for that classic “chew” you need to muster through. That wasn’t the case with the YETI Rambler French Press. Also, the Twist-to-Lock lid was nice because then you didn’t need to engage in this awkward campfire dance.
Awkward Campfire Dance: pour the coffee… hold the lid down… don’t leak coffee grounds… you just missed the cup… you poured molten coffee on your sandal-wearing feet… you start dancing an Irish jig-of-pain… children from an adjacent campground are laughing at you… now you want to fight a child… you realize you can’t do that… you pour more coffee on your feet…
For anyone who is wanting to get a French Press that is as bulletproof as say, a YETI cooler, you may just want to stick with that brand and grab yourself a YETI Rambler French Press. Andrea and I have enjoyed ours and it has served us well.
In closing, I want to say thank you to YETI for allowing AllOutdoor and myself the opportunity to try out their YETI Rambler French Press 34 Oz. That is greatly appreciated.
