Volvo sales are up 47.3% year-on-year in June.
The Norwegian new car market is up 4.5% year-on-year in June to 15,566 units, yet a difficult start of year has it down -2.9% over H1 to 66,549. BEV sales outpace the market again at +27.6% to 12,801 and 82.2% share vs. 78.7% a year ago and are up 2.1% year-to-date to 55,276 and 83.1% vs. 79.1% over H1 2022. PHEV sales are down -18.7% to 1,354 for the month and -26.3% to 4,689 so far this year while HEVs climb 49.1% to 823 in June and are at +26.8% to 4,124 halfway through the year. Overall, electrified vehicles account for 96.9% of the market in June and 96.3% year-to-date. Petrol is at 1.5% for the month and 1.3% year-to-date and diesel is at 2.3% and 2.4%.
Brand-wise, there is no surprise on top as Tesla (+28.6%) towers above the rest of the market with 22.2% share, which is actually surprisingly low given it’s the end of the quarter as its year-to-date level is 25.3%. We are witnessing the abandon of end of quarter backloads for the American carmaker. Volkswagen (+14.9%) returns to the 2nd spot above Toyota (+49.2%), both scoring very solid results. In contrast Skoda (-21%) and BMW (-24.6%) implode. Volvo (+47.3%) and Ford (+6.9%) are the only additional gainers in the Top 10 as Audi (-10.8%), Mercedes (-20.4%) and Hyundai (-26.9%) are hit full frontal. The Chinese wave continues to recede, with MG (+3.4%) just above the market growth rate but BYD (-60.2%), NIO (-45.8%), Xpeng (-86.4%) and Hongqi (-98%) sinking.
Model-wise, the Tesla Model Y (+23.5%) is tops of the charts with 20.1% share vs. 23.2% year-to-date. It is followed by the VW ID.4 (-5.5%) and its twin the Skoda Enyaq (-27.9%) both in a rut. The Toyota RAV4 (+27.7%), Volvo XC40 (+118.4%) and Ford Mustang Mach-E (+12.5%) shine below. The Audi Q8 e-Tron scores its first Top 10 finish under its new name (it used to be called e-Tron) at #8. Excellent score as well for the Kia EV6 (+56.3%) up to #9 vs. #24 year-to-date. The VW ID.Buzz is down just two spots on its record-breaking 9th place last month. Notice also the Nissan Ariya at #17 and the MG 4 at #18.
