Review: Ultimate Dry and Stuff Bags by Sea to Summit

When it’s time for wet adventures, dry bags are the way to go.

I haven’t had a dry bag in a while because of how bulky they used to be. I remember the ol’ days when you wanted a dry bag, it was thick, huge, and heavy. Over the years, dry bags have reduced in size and weight drastically.

Sea to Summit has come out with some revolutionary stuff and dry bags that we’re going to talk about below.

First, let’s talk about the Evac Compression Dry Bag UL.

The material is thin and feels like there is absolutely no way that it’ll keep any water out. I was skeptical, to be honest. I decided to put an extra sweater I happened to have in the Jeep (always be prepared) inside of it because if it got wet, who cares.

Look, it’s not that I don’t have faith, this is the first test, though and I just wanted to make extra sure that it was going to work.

I am happy to report that after dunking it in the river several times, really soaking the bag good, the sweater was completely dry!

That’s great, cause that’s exactly the purpose of a dry bag. To keep the contents dry. To huzzah! A complete success.

The material is made of an air-permeable laminate. The laminate allows air to be pushed out of the dry bag so it can be compressed but prevents water from entering. This means you can compress the air out of a dry bag without needing a purge valve.

Wow. What will they think of next?

I’m a big fan of the Evac Compression Dry Bag UL and will be using them whenever there might be water present, including Argo rides through the rain and mud.

Next, let’s examine the Ultra-Sil Stuff Sack.

These would be stuff sacks that you would put inside of the above dry bags, backpacks or even in your suitcase.

It’s an ultralight but durable solution using a water-resistant, Ultra-Sil 30D nylon fabric. They have a reinforced pull handle on the base, an easy to operate drawcord and comes in orange, blue and yellow. The slippery fabric and secure grab handle at the base are used for effortless sliding in and out of packs.

Having these stuff sacks are a great way to pack up your gear in an organized way. The Ultra-Sil Stuff Sack packs will be used for my bug out bag, camping, riding in the Argo (4×4 off road vehicle) and various other adventures.

Sea to Summit is constantly innovating gear with the outdoor enthusiast in mind. These sacks are a true expression of how important lightweight, compact and easy to use gear is to the outdoor world.

They’re also reasonably priced. The Ultra-Sil Stuff Sack starts at $18.95 and the Evac Compression Dry Bag UL starts at $39.95. Check them out!
