FAA Extends Versatile Slot Use for NYC

The U.S. Federal Aviation Administration has extended its flexibility to reduce slot usage for airports in the New York City area through Oct. 28, the agency announced Wednesday.

The waiver, which began June 15, initially was scheduled to end Sept. 15, and multiple carriers, including JetBlue and United Airlines, took advantage of the opportunity. Various airline executives have noted that a shortage of air traffic controllers in New York has contributed to operational disruptions in the region.

“The FAA is working closely with [National Air Traffic Controllers Association] to implement a long-term solution to resolve ongoing low staffing levels at the New York Terminal Radar Approach Control,” according to the agency.
