Record smallmouth caught
A New York State record smallmouth bass was caught in the St. Lawrence River last fall.
State resident Dante Piraino caught the nine-pound bass while fishing in a tournament on Sept. 22. He was fishing near Ogdensburg, across from Prescott, Ontario.
Ontario’s smallmouth record is a 10.15-pound fish caught in the Canadian waters of western Lake Erie by Ohio resident Gregg Gallagher in November 2022.
