We’re live from the First UN Tourism Regional Forum on Gastronomy Tourism for Africa in Victoria Falls, Zimbabwe. The Forum which is the first of its kind in Africa, is being hosted in recognition of Her Excellency The First Lady of the Republic of Zimbabwe Dr Auxillia Mnangagwa’s efforts in promoting Gastronomy Tourism from the grassroots level.
His Excellency The President of the Republic of Zimbabwe Cde Dr. E. D. Mnangagwa has guided a tour of culinary stands featuring traditional African foods. The tour which comprised of First Ladies, UN Tourism, Tourism Ministers across the continent, Cabinet Ministers and other international delegates began at Amai’s kitchen, highlighting a diverse array of rich Zimbabwean cuisine, and continued to stands representing other African countries, including Angola, Botswana, Ghana, Malawi, Nigeria, and Uganda.
The afternoon session of the First UN Tourism Regional Forum on Gastronomy Tourism for Africa kicked off with an awards ceremony to celebrate individuals who have participated and continue to play a key role in gastronomy tourism. Nokutenda Tombindo walked away with the 𝗧𝗵𝗲 𝗨𝗡 𝗧𝗼𝘂𝗿𝗶𝘀𝗺 𝗬𝗼𝘂𝘁𝗵 𝗣𝗵𝗼𝘁𝗼 𝗖𝗼𝗻𝘁𝗲𝘀𝘁 “𝗔 𝗝𝗼𝘂𝗿𝗻𝗲𝘆 𝘁𝗵𝗿𝗼𝘂𝗴𝗵 𝗭𝗶𝗺𝗯𝗮𝗯𝘄𝗲’𝘀 𝗚𝗮𝘀𝘁𝗿𝗼𝗻𝗼𝗺𝘆” award from UN Tourism and Ministry of Tourism and Hospitality Industry Zimbabwe.
During the Forum, four influential chefs from the African region were recognized for their pivotal role in promoting gastronomy tourism. These chefs hailed from Nigeria, Ethiopia, Zimbabwe and Tunisia.Their dedication to preserving African culinary heritage and promoting sustainability underscores the transformative potential of gastronomy tourism in Africa’s socio-economic development.
