Sample flights

These deals have ample availability from many major U.S. airports — and there are particularly cheap fares for flights out of the West Coast.

Here are the flights that stood out to us:

  • Norse Atlantic: Boston Logan International Airport (BOS) to Gatwick Airport (LGW), starting at $431.
  • Icelandair: Baltimore/Washington International Thurgood Marshall Airport (BWI) to LGW, starting at $479 (includes a layover in Reykjavik).
  • Icelandair: Newark Liberty International Airport (EWR) to LGW, starting at $485 (includes a layover in Reykjavik).
  • Norse Atlantic: San Francisco International Airport (SFO) to LGW, starting at $502.
  • Norse Atlantic: Los Angeles International Airport (LAX) to LGW, starting at $507.
  • Delta: Seattle-Tacoma International Airport (SEA) to LGW, starting at $593 (includes a layover in New York City).

We recommend using Google Flights to find your ideal dates and then booking your flights directly on the airline’s website; direct airline bookings are more reliable if a flight is canceled, delayed or has a booking change.

If you want to fly from San Francisco to London this September, then the nonstop Norse Atlantic flight is the cheapest available option on Google Flights.

GOOGLE FLIGHTS

For returning flights, Google Flights lists the Sept. 14 flight back to San Francisco as one where you’d need to book the tickets separately to get the lowest possible fare.

Even though Google Flights shows the round-trip price between San Francisco and London as $485, the fare actually costs $502 if you book your tickets directly on Norse Atlantic’s website. Sometimes, Google Flights can show price discrepancies between its fares and the fares on airlines’ websites due to the availability of third-party options.

GOOGLE FLIGHTS

On Norse Atlantic’s website, the $502 round-trip fare is for the carrier’s economy light class; with this fare, passengers can only bring a personal item on board and change tickets by paying a fee. The fare from San Francisco to London is $184 and the fare back is $319.

NORSE ATLANTIC

Given that Norse Atlantic’s economy light fare is rather bare bones, you’ll have to pay extra if you plan to bring a carry-on and checked luggage. A carry-on costs $45 one-way, and a standard checked bag costs $70.

Seat selection costs extra, too. Standard seats cost anywhere from $20 to $35 extra, whereas seats with the most legroom cost $100. Preferred seats are $60.

Bottom line

Traveling to London can be expensive at almost any given time of the year, with basic economy fares typically as high as $950. However, these deals allow you to save as much as 50%. Even though many ancillary fees are tacked onto these fares, you’re still saving a ton.

These flights may fill up fast and will probably change soon, so snag these tickets while you can.
