Free Gear Fridays: Win a Pair of LOWA All-Terrain Working Footwear

This week, three lucky winners will receive a pair of LOWA All-Terrain Running shoes ($175 value) for trail running, everyday hikes, and other outdoor adventures.

More on the Prize

Winners will have their choice from the three styles: Citux, Amplux, and Fortux. They range from cushioned everyday trail runners to lighter, race-ready shoes.

The LOWA ATR shoes are the veteran bootmaker’s first foray into the trail running space. The brand brings a lot of its tech and mountain know-how to the three ATR shoes, which share several features like the sole and footbed, and also bespoke details depending on the intended use.

3 Shoes for Different Uses

Regarding use cases, the Citux is your light-and-fast shoe for tackling steep terrain, fast trails, and racing. It has a 4mm drop and uses 20% carbon in the midsole’s plate. The men’s Citux weighs about 8.8 ounces, and the women’s is 7.4 ounces.

LOWA designed the Amplux with a 6mm drop for everyday trail and cross-country running. Each men’s shoe weighs 10.4 ounces; the women’s version weighs 8.6 ounces per shoe.

The Fortux emphasizes longevity with its cushioned ride made for long runs, ultramarathons, and speed hikes. It ditches the carbon plate for a larger stack height and DYNEVA midsole. The men’s Fortux weighs 10.9 ounces, 9.2 for the women’s version.

Materials: What’s in LOWA Trail Running Shoes

First, there’s the LOWA TRAC Sole — the brand’s sticky rubber similar to its boot traction — which is made to work on wet and dry surfaces on steep terrain. Taking a page from its mountaineering boots, LOWA uses its Reptex Sport ripstop nylon in the upper for protection and long-term durability. The brand also employs ankle lines in the ATR uppers to avoid pressure points.

The two lighter shoes — Citux and Amplux — use a carbon-reinforced rebound plate in the midsole to protect feet from sharp rocks as well as return energy, which helps during endurance runs. The two shoes use slightly different amounts of carbon for weight savings and their specialized trail duties.

Lastly, a molded heel counter can stabilize the heel in multiple directions, which is always a plus when running on uneven terrain.

More on the Brand

LOWA has specialized in trekking boots for 100 years. While the brand continues to create mountain footwear, it has also evolved with the outdoor industry landscape. In addition to the ATR trail running shoes, LOWA has also released an everyday collection for less-intense travels, whether you spend your time in airport terminals, on casual hikes, or both.
