GWM Australia has shared a new video suggesting the Tank 400 four-wheel drive could be coming Down Under.
The video shows the Tank 400 Hi4T hybrid model in a warehouse.
As mentioned in the GWM post, the hybrid Tank 400 packs 304kW of power and 750Nm of torque from its plug-in hybrid powertrain. It’ll do more than 100km on a charge, which GWM says makes the 400 “a true off-roader for the electrified age”.
GWM Australia told CarExpert in April the Tank 400 wasn’t on the cards at the time… but “never say never”.
Currently, the GWM Tank 300 is on sale in Australia, while the Tank 500 hasn’t been confirmed but has been spotted multiple times on our roads.
The company’s latest Instagram appears to be asking for Australian input on whether it should bring the off-roader Down Under.
“We’ve already confirmed Tank 300 and Tank 500 is firming as the second Tank model for Australia,” said a spokesperson for GWM Australia in April.
“These two models would provide coverage of the medium and large SUV segments. With that in mind Tank 400 is, at this stage, not on the cards for Australia but never say never…”
The Tank 400 measures 4985mm long, 1960mm wide and 1905mm tall on a 2850mm wheelbase. That slots it between the Tank 300 (4760mm long on a 2750mm wheelbase) and the Tank 500 (5070mm long on a 2850mm wheelbase).
It features a 2.0-litre turbocharged four-cylinder engine mated with two electric motors and a three-speed Direct Hybrid Transmission.
The Tank 400 was first revealed in concept form in 2021, and the production version debuted at the Shanghai motor show earlier this year.
Every Tank concept has subsequently been revealed in production guise apart from the flagship 800, a turbocharged V6-powered luxury SUV.
