GWM Tank 300 seems unscathed after dramatic tumble

A GWM Tank 300 has rolled down a steep 4×4 track in China and emerged looking little worse for wear.

In a video posted by the China Off-Road Driving Association on YouTube, we can see the Tank 300 getting a rolling head start before climbing up a dirt hill.

Everything looks to be going according to plan until the vehicle is halfway up the track.

The driver speeds up, and appears to get some air time and lose control of the vehicle, which ends up facing a parallel track.

The Tank 300 then clips the hill separating the tracks, which causes the car to roll down the hill.

It’s unclear if the driver was injured, however it appears there was little to no damage on the exterior of the vehicle.

The video ends with bystanders opening the driver’s door where the airbags had deployed.

The 300 is the first vehicle from GWM’s rugged off-roader brand, Tank, though it’ll be sold here as a GWM Tank 300.

Petrol-powered GWM Tank 300 models are already reaching Australian dealers, though deliveries of the hybrid have yet to begin.

The petrol-powered GWM Tank 300 has a turbocharged 2.0-litre four-cylinder engine producing 162kW of power and 380Nm of torque, mated with an eight-speed automatic transmission.

Petrol models use a part-time four-wheel drive system and feature a locking rear differential and a Tank Turn function to reduce the turning circle.

The Tank 300 hybrid uses a turbocharged 2.0-litre four-cylinder engine producing 180kW of power at 5500-6000rpm and 380Nm of torque at 1700-4000rpm, paired with a 78kW/268Nm electric motor and a nine-speed automatic transmission.

While GWM hasn’t published total hybrid system outputs in Australia, the company’s global site claims outputs of 224kW and 640Nm and a 0-100km/h time of 7.9 seconds.

It features electronically controlled mechanical front and rear differential locks, a Tank Turn function to reduce the turning circle, and a crawl mode.
