Hardcore Mitsubishi Triton headlines vary of Tokyo ideas

Mitsubishi has unveiled a hardcore accessorised concept version of the new-generation Triton, along with three other off-road-focused concepts at this year’s Tokyo Auto Salon.

The Mitsubishi Triton Snow Shredder concept is based on the top-specification GSR variant and is fitted with a whole range of off-road accessories that are geared toward adventuring in the snow.

A number of these off-road accessories fitted to the Triton Snow Shredder concept are genuine accessories. It’s unclear if any of these will be offered locally.

The Triton Snow Shredder concept comes fitted with aggressive Toyo Observe W/T-R LT 285/70 R17 tyres.

There’s also a bull bar, black grille emblem, underbody protection, unique wheel arch mouldings, snorkel, side protector bar, roof rack with LED light bar, canopy, awning, and steel rear bar with a mounted spare wheel.

Mitsubishi hasn’t made any changes to the Triton’s powertrain with this off-road concept. It’s still powered by a 2.4-litre four-cylinder bi-turbo diesel engine producing 150kW of power and 470Nm of torque.

As previously reported, the new-generation Mitsubishi Triton is set to debut locally in February. There will be six variants at launch, with cab-chassis and manual variants to follow at a later date.

In addition to the Triton Snow Shredder concept, Mitsubishi also revealed the Delica D:5 Chamonix Snow Gear concept at this year’s Tokyo Auto Salon.

Like the accessorised Triton concept, this Delica D:5 concept has been fitted with a range of accessories so it can be driven “safely and powerfully through snowy roads”.

The concept is based on the Delica D:5 Chamonix, which is a flagship version of the diesel-powered people mover.

Some of the accessories fitted to the Delica D:5 Chamonix Snow Gear concept include off-road tyres, off-road suspension, nudge bar, roof rack, storage box, and a number of driving lights.

The Delica Mini Chamonix Snow Gear concept is essentially a shrunken version of the full-sized Delica D:5 Snow Gear concept.

Based on the Delica Mini Chamonix, this concept comes with an off-road suspension kit (raising ride height by 40mm), off-road tyres, nudge bar, roof rack, tailgate-mounted ladder, and interior storage solutions, among others.

The last new concept car Mitsubishi revealed at the Tokyo Auto Salon is the Outlander PHEV Active Field concept.

It comes with Rays Daytona M9+ wheels wrapped in Yokohama Geolander all-terrain tyres, gloss black exterior touches, roof racks, and a tow bar.

On Mitsubishi’s booth at this year’s Tokyo Auto Salon the company also showcased a regular version of the new-generation Triton, the Triton Asia Cross Country Rally rally racer, as well as the Delica D:5 Asia Cross Country Rally support car.
