Hilton Honors often runs interesting promotions for its members to earn more points and qualifying nights.
For summer 2023, Hilton has come up with the “Resort to More Points” promotion, which lets you to earn up to 4,000 bonus points per stay from May 1 to September 5, 2023.
Starting May 1: “Resort to More Points”
For Hilton’s second seasonal offering this year, you can take advantage of the “Resort to More Points” promotion in time for your summer getaways.
This promotion offers two ways to pad your Hilton Honors account balance:
- Earn 4,000 bonus points per stay at resort properties on this list of Hilton resorts
- Earn 2,000 bonus points per stay at all other properties
To participate, make sure you register through the promotion’s dedicated page first.
Per the terms and conditions, there’s no limit on how many points you can earn from your stays, and even award stays qualify for the bonus points.
We currently value Hilton Honors points at 0.7 cents per point (CAD) apiece, so 4,000 and 2,000 points per stay corresponds to a value of $28 and $14 (CAD), respectively.
The “Resort to More Points” promotion is definitely one of the weaker offers that Hilton Honors has put out in recent times, since you’re only earning a modest fixed return with every stay.
However, it’s at least refreshing to see a hotel loyalty program offering promotions that run seamlessly throughout the year, compared to sporadic offers or targeted promos from other hotel chains.
This particular promotion will especially benefit people who make single-night or shorter stays, since there’s no minimum stay requirement.
To maximize your points earning, you can stay non-consecutive nights at different Hilton properties during the promotional period and receive the bonus points each time.
Until April 30: “Double Up & Explore”
You still have until April 30, 2023 to benefit from the “Double Up & Explore” promotion. Hilton’s Winter 2023 offering allows you to earn twice the base points, making your base earn 20 points per USD.
Plus, you an extra 1,000 points with every stay, including those redeemed with points.
With this promotion, if you book at a Hilton property, for every US dollar you spend, you’ll earn:
- 10 base points as a Hilton Honors member
- 10 points as part of the “Double Up & Explore” promotion
- Bonus points for having Hilton Honors elite status:
- Points earned for using your Hilton Honors credit card at an eligible co-branded property:
- 7 points for using the Hilton Honors Card
- 12 points for using the Hilton Honors Surpass Card or the Hilton Honors Business Card
- 14 points for using the Hilton Honors Aspire Card
That works out to up to 44 Hilton Honors points per dollar spent, plus an additional 1,000 bonus points per stay under the ongoing promotion.
At our current valuation of 0.5 cents per point (USD) or 0.7 cents per point (CAD), you could also view this as a 22% discount on the price of your stay without factoring in the bonus points yet.
Of course, not everyone has the Aspire Card – even with annual credits, it’s a steep annual fee to swallow when you consider other premium cards on the market.
Alternatively, if you have a Canadian-issued American Express Platinum Card and a lower-tier American Express US Hilton credit card, you’ll earn:
- 10 base points as a Hilton Honors member
- 10 points as part of the “Double Up & Explore” promotion
- 8 bonus points for having Hilton Honors Gold status (which you get as an Amex Platinum cardholder)
- 12 points for using your Hilton Honors Surpass or Business Card at a co-branded property
A total of 40 Hilton Honors points per dollar spent is equivalent to a 20% discount on your stays, and it’s almost the same rate as you’d get with the Aspire Card.
With returns of up to 22% via this promotion, this is a decent opportunity to make a cash booking for an upcoming trip during less busy periods – that is, right before and right after the peak summer months. You can then save the points you’ll earn for a future award redemption or for when the active promotions aren’t as favourable.
Saving your points would certainly be a better choice if you’re working towards an aspirational Hilton redemption with a high points cost, especially since Hilton Honors points aren’t as easy to come by as other hotel rewards from a Canadian perspective.
