Hilton Honors often runs interesting promotions for its members to earn more points and qualifying nights on stays.
We’ve just learned the details of the Winter 2024 “Points Plus” promotion, through which you can earn up to 2,500 points per stay from January 1–May 1, 2024.
As a reminder, the Fall 2023 “Multiply Your Points” promotion is ongoing, and members can earn up to 3x points on eligible stays through to December 31, 2023.
Hilton Honors Winter 2024 Promotion: “Points Plus”
Hilton’s Winter 2024 promotion is called “Points Plus”, and you can earn up to 2,500 Hilton Honors points on eligible stays from January 1–May 1, 2024.
The upcoming promotion is structured as follows:
- Earn 2,000 Hilton Honors points per eligible stay
- Earn 500 Hilton Honors points per eligible stay when you use Digital Key
To earn the bonus points for using a Digital Key,you’ll just need to make use of the Digital Key at least once during your stay.
However, you’ll first need to register for the promotion on the landing page, and then you’ll enjoy bonus points for stays during the promotional period.
There’s no limit as to how many points you can earn from stays, and all properties under the Hilton portfolio count.
As long as you’ve registered for the promotion, any stays booked before registration are eligible for the extra points. Your check-out date must fall between January 1 and May 1, 2024 to be eligible for the bonus points.
For reward bookings, you’ll still earn bonus points for each eligible stay of this promotion, as long as you earn base points as part of your stay.
It’s worth noting that this is one of the weaker promotions we’ve seen in the past year. However, if you have any stays coming up over the winter and early spring, you may as well register for the promotion.
Hilton Honors Fall 2023 Promotion: “Multiply Your Points”
As a reminder, Hilton’s Fall 2023 promotion is called “Multiply Your Points”, and you can earn up to 3x Hilton Honors points on eligible stays from September 6–December 31, 2023.
The current promotion is structured as follows:
- Earn 3x Hilton Honors points for stays in select cities
- Earn 2x Hilton Honors points for all other stays
You’ll first need to register for the promotion on the landing page, and then you’ll enjoy elevated earning rates for stays during the promotional period.
The full list of properties that are eligible for the 3x earning rate can be found on this landing page. The list is indeed quite long, with properties all over the world available for the highest earning rate.
There’s no limit as to how many points you can earn from stays; however, you’ll either earn double or triple points on your stay, as the two don’t stack.
As long as you’ve registered for the promotion, any stays booked before registration are eligible for 2x or 3x points. Your check-out date must fall between September 6 and December 31, 2023 to be eligible for the bonus points.
For reward bookings, you’ll still earn bonus points as long as you incur costs that qualify for base points during the stay.
If you have any paid stays coming up over the fall, this promotion has the potential to be quite lucrative.
How To Maximize the “Multiply Your Points” Promotion
If you have any stays with Hilton over the winter and early spring, you’ll want to make sure you’re maximizing your earnings, especially with a weaker promotion this time around.
For example, if you book at a Hilton property, for every US dollar you spend, you can earn:
That works out to up to 34 Hilton Honors points per dollar spent: 10 base points as a Hilton Honors member, 10 points with Hilton Diamond status, and 14 points by paying with an Aspire card.
At our current valuation of 0.5 cents per point (USD) or 0.7 cents per point (CAD), you could also view this as a 17% return, which is a pretty good deal.
Plus, you’ll earn a fixed amount of at least 2,000 points, plus an additional 500 points for using a Digital Key, with the upcoming promotion. This type of bonus is more valuable on less expensive bookings, since you’ll earn the same number of points whether you spend $100 or $1,000 on a stay.
Of course, not everyone has the Aspire Card — even with annual credits, it’s a steep annual fee to swallow when you consider other premium cards on the market.
Alternatively, if you have a Canadian-issued American Express Platinum Card or Business Platinum Card from American Express, and a lower-tier American Express US Hilton credit card, you’ll earn:
- 10 base points per US dollar spent as a Hilton Honors member
- 8 bonus points for having Hilton Honors Gold status (which you get as an Amex Platinum cardholder)
- 12 points for using your Hilton Honors Surpass or Business Card at a co-branded property
A total of 30 Hilton Honors points per dollar spent is equivalent to a 15% return on your stays, and it’s almost the same rate as you’d get with the Aspire Card.
With returns of up to 17% via this promotion, this is a good opportunity to make a cash booking for an upcoming trip during less busy periods, during which prices might be less than in the busy summer months. You can then save the points you’ll earn for a future award redemption or for when the active promotions aren’t as favourable.
Saving your points would certainly be a better choice if you’re working towards an aspirational Hilton redemption with a high points cost, especially since Hilton Honors points aren’t as easy to come by as other hotel rewards from a Canadian perspective.
Conclusion
The Hilton Honors Winter 2024 “Points Plus” promotion is now open to registration, valid for stays from January 1–May 1, 2024. For each stay, you’ll earn 2,000 points, as well as an additional 500 points for using a Digital Key.
As a reminder, the Fall 2023 “Multiply Your Points” promotion is ongoing, and you can earn up to 3x points for stays until December 31, 2023. Depending on which credit card you have and your Hilton Honors status, this promotion has the potential to be quite lucrative.
There’s no downside to registering for these promotions, so be sure to consider Hilton properties if you have some hotel stays coming up over the fall and winter months to score some extra points.
Be sure to register for the promotion first, and then plan your upcoming stays accordingly to maximize its potential.
