Honda previews new 0 Sequence electrical vehicles with wild-looking ideas

Honda has unveiled a new series of electric vehicles (EVs) at this year’s CES tech show in Las Vegas, though it’s unclear whether these new 0 Series models will come to Australia.

The Japanese carmaker revealed two concept cars from its new 0 Series, the Saloon and Space-Hub.

At this stage Honda has confirmed the first production model from the Honda 0 Series will debut in the North American market in 2026, followed by Japan, Asia, Europe, Africa, the Middle East, and South America.

It didn’t mention Australia among 0 Series markets. We’ve reached out to Honda Australia for clarification.

The Honda 0 Series has been developed as an EV-only series of vehicles with the approach of “thin, light and wise”.

‘Thin’ represents vehicles with a low height and “excellent aerodynamic performance”, ‘Light’ refers to “sporty driving” and “electricity efficiency”, and ‘Wise’ represents the implementation of “original software-defined mobility products”.

The production vehicles from this Honda 0 Series, as well as all its “next-generation EVs” will wear an updated version of Honda’s “H mark” which dates back to 1981.

The Honda Saloon concept is a low-slung sporty-looking electric sedan with a fastback silhouette and a spacious four-seat interior.

The Honda Space-Hub concept on the other hand is a large boxy people mover with a flexible seating arrangement for passengers.

At this stage no information has been detailed in regard to the Saloon and Space-Hub concept’s electric motor or battery setup.

It’s unclear which of the concept cars will inform the first production vehicle of the Honda 0 Series.

As recently reported, Honda Australia said it has no plans to introduce any EVs before 2028, instead focusing on expanding its range of hybrid models.

“Our electrification strategy is all about using hybrid to bridge to electrification in the future,” said Honda Australia boss Carolyn McMahon in March 2023.

“We don’t have any plans at the moment to introduce EVs.”

The Honda boss said the company will continually monitor the market and what products are made available.

Honda’s Australian arm isn’t committing to EVs despite the Japanese carmaker rolling out ever more electric models.

While it has axed the retro E hatchback, it is rolling out the new Chinese-built HR-V-sized e:Ny1 electric SUV in Europe. It’s one of a growing range of Chinese-built electric Hondas, which includes the e:NP2.

Honda is also developing an electric sedan under the new Afeela brand with Sony, and has developed the North American Honda Prologue and Acura ZDX with General Motors.
