It gives PURE frustration when we’re putting on our favorite pair of jeans and our legs feel swollen and uncomfortable. The good news is, leg bloating is really common, so you’re not alone.

Leg bloating happens when there’s an excess build-up of fluid in our legs, causing them to swell up like balloons. It can make you feel self-conscious and limit your ability to do everyday activities.

Luckily, there are plenty of ways to reduce that swelling to make us feel more comfortable in our skin.

Can Legs Get Bloated? YES!

So the quintessential question presents itself: can legs even get bloated?

The answer is yes.

But, how can you recognize leg bloating? Sometimes, it’ll feel like your legs are heavier than usual. You’ll also feel general discomfort or pain in your legs. Keep an eye out, because your skin may also appear stretched, shiny, or red.

If you’re experiencing these symptoms, it’s super important that you take action to reduce the swelling. And we totally got you covered.

Buh-Bye Bloat: How to Get Rid of Bloated Legs

Hydrate to reduce bloat.

So first and foremost, drinking plenty of water is one of the best ways to flush out excess fluids and reduce bloating. If you’re feeling bougie, you could even add a slice of lemon or cucumber for extra flavor and detoxifying benefits. Or even better, add green chlorophyll or The Skinny Confidential x Arrae Le Depuff drops.

Oh, and did you know that having a designated water bottle can help you effortlessly drink more water? It’s true. Try this stainless steel one to take your hydrating to the next level and always always always keep water by your bedside.

Eat your way to less bloat.

If you’re noticing your legs are starting to swell, try to incorporate more potassium-rich foods like bananas and avocados into your diet. Potassium works in your body to help regulate fluid balance and reduce bloating.

We’ve also covered some of the best foods for debloating that you can add to your diet and our pink detox drink which works wonders on bloating. Trust us, diet plays a HUGE role in bloating (or lack thereof). Not just in the legs, but the whole body.

Exercise to improve circulation.

Get your heart pumping with regular exercise to improve circulation and stop fluid buildup in your legs. Blast some dance-worthy music and have a dance party at home or take a hike to mix things up. Whatever you do, keep it moving.

Sock it to swelling.

There are tons of benefits of compression wear, including reducing bloat. So, slip on some compression socks or stockings to reduce leg swelling and improve leg circulation. Choose from a range of cute styles and colors to match your outfit or just wear them at home

Elevate to drain excess fluid.

Lift those legs and chill, baby. Elevate your feet above your heart for 20-30 minutes a day to reduce bloating. Use a pillow or foam wedge to prop up your legs while you relax. You could even lie on the ground and do some yoga poses or put your legs up on the wall, which is Lauryn’s favorite way to meditate.

Move to prevent fluid buildup.

Try not to sit or stand for long periods. Movement makes it difficult for fluid to build in your legs. Take a quick walk or stretch break every hour to keep your blood flowing. This is helpful especially if you have a desk job.

Massage your way to less swelling.

Try getting a massage to stimulate lymphatic flow and reduce swelling in your legs. You could learn some DIY techniques or book a professional massage.

If you decide to go DIY, Le Spoon is the way to go. Not only will it give you a little leg massage, but it sculpts and contours like no other. Lauryn has been using this for months and notices a huge difference in her bloating and cellulite. It increases circulation, promotes detoxing and lymphatic drainage and is the perfect selfcare ritual when you get out of the shower.

Cut the salt.

We’re big fans of hydrating with unrefined sea salt and water in the morning. It’s such a good way to hydrate. However, what’s not helpful for bloat are processed, salty foods. It’s not rocket science that we want to be consuming mostly fresh, whole foods, and this will help big time with bloat.

Loosen up to prevent fluid buildup.

We love a form-fitting outfit on almost any occasion. But with leg bloat, avoiding wearing tight clothing or shoes that can restrict blood flow and cause fluid buildup is really beneficial. Try sticking to more loose and comfortable clothing and supportive shoes. (Aside from compression wear, of course!)

Soothe your muscles and reduce your bloat.

Epsom salt does indeed work on bloating. Take a warm Epsom salt bath to relax your muscles and reduce fluid retention. You can learn more about how we like Epsom salt and hydrogen peroxide for our sore muscle baths. You could even add a few drops of lavender essential oil for extra relaxation.!

Cool it down.

If there was ever a time to stay frosty… having swollen legs is that time. Use a cold compress, ice pack, or ice roller to reduce inflammation and swelling in your legs. If you can handle it, try a cold plunge or at the very least, end your shower with a 30 second cold blast.

Talk to your doctor about reducing swelling.

This one is honestly the biggest tip here. If your bloating persists after trying any of the tips mentioned above, its time to call your doctor. Make sure you talk to your healthcare provider about medical treatments like diuretics or compression therapy and their side effects.

Say hello to long, lean legs.

Lauryn’s entire beauty line was designed to debloat, depuff, sculpt and chisel. Along with Le Depuff drops, all these tools can give you the much needed ‘time-out’ you deserve while delivering results you can see.
