Hyatt Regency’s parent company announced Wednesday that the brand’s first hotel in the Maldives will open by late 2027.
Hyatt inked a new management agreement with SingHaiyi for Hyatt Regency Samarafushi Maldives, which will be on the North Male Atoll. The all-villa Hyatt Regency resort will be the third Hyatt property to open in the Maldives after the highly popular Park Hyatt Maldives Hadahaa and Alila Kothaifaru Maldives. The Hyatt Regency Samarafushi Maldives will presumably be a slightly more affordable option than its ultraluxurious Park Hyatt and Alila siblings.
“The Hyatt Regency brand is rooted in a culture of bringing people together and fostering a spirit of community. For more than 55 years, it has inspired Hyatt guests to seek personal connections and professional collaborations in more than 40 countries around the globe,” David Udell, Hyatt’s group president of the Asia-Pacific region, said in a statement. “We’re thrilled to collaborate with SingHaiyi to invite travelers to open their minds and hearts to new perspectives and experiences in the Maldives, one of the world’s most desirable resort destinations.”
Details around pricing and World of Hyatt award redemptions aren’t out yet, but Hyatt Regency Samarafushi Maldives will be a 25-minute speedboat ride from Male’s Velana International Airport (MLE). The resort’s location on the North Male Atoll is known for diving and snorkeling; guests will be able to access popular surfing destinations like Pasta Point and Sultans as well.
The 24-acre property will include 130 beachfront, treetop and overwater villas, all with private pools. The Park + Associates-designed project will lean into Maldivian architecture and a light, natural color palette. A sunset bar, a beach club, a Japanese specialty restaurant and an all-day dining concept will keep guests well fed.
There will also be a kids club, a marine and diving center, a fitness pavilion, a yoga deck and a spa with eight treatment rooms. Hyatt Globalists and guests staying in villas with club access at Hyatt Regency Samarafushi Maldives will be able to enjoy complimentary refreshments at the Regency Club lounge planned for the resort.
