Hyatt’s new Secrets and techniques Tulum Resort & Seashore Membership is now open

If you feel like everyone you know is going to Tulum, Mexico, lately … it’s because they are.

The formerly sleepy, boho resort town south of Cancun has turned pretty posh over the last few years, and a handful of luxury hotels and resorts, including a Conrad, have been giving travelers new reasons to visit.

In fact, the resort town is so popular that Delta Air Lines just announced brand-new direct flights to Tulum.

Next in line with an exciting new property is Hyatt, which just opened the adults-only, all-inclusive Secrets Tulum Resort & Beach Club.

While many resorts in Mexico and the Caribbean sit directly on the beach, Tulum has a good mixture of beachfront properties and downtown hotels and resorts set back from the water. This new Secrets is downtown and has everything you could want from a resort, and beach access is available just a few minutes away at the property’s Secrets Beach Club.

The resort is inspired by nearby cenotes

From an aerial perspective, the resort looks futuristic, but rather than taking inspiration from Apple’s Infinite Loop campus in Cupertino, California, this resort is designed to evoke the feeling of the region’s must-visit cenotes, or cavelike formations with hidden pools. Like the cenotes, the circular buildings are home to a series of pools and, unlike the gorgeous natural formations, there are swim-up rooms would-be guests can book for direct access to the water.

Across the 300-key property, guests will find more natural-inspired elements like heavy use of stone, rock and wood, and each room opens up into one of the cenote-like areas with a private balcony or terrace. In the bathrooms, expect more rock finishings, plus soaking tubs to relax in.

Entry-level suites at this all-suite property start at 657 square feet, and accommodations work their way up to a five-bedroom private villa at the beach club that can accommodate 10 guests and comes with a private pool, rooftop wet bar and private chef. But if that’s a little too luxe, Preferred Club-level suites give guests an upgraded experience with access to a private lounge, exclusive rooftop pool and beach-style swimming pool, upgraded bathroom amenities, upgraded minibar service and more.

There’s plenty to eat, drink and do on the property

Since this is an all-inclusive resort, you’re probably wondering what’s for dinner … and breakfast, and lunch and every moment in between. This resort offers plenty to choose from, ranging from your classic international buffet to restaurants serving steak and seafood, Mediterranean dishes, Asian and Peruvian fusion, casual lunch favorites and coffeehouse specialties.

And it’s worth noting that over the years, food and drink offerings at all-inclusive resorts have very much improved. Our last few stays at Hyatt properties, including the nearby Secrets Impression Moxche and the Hyatt Ziva Los Cobos, left us impressed and set the bar high for this new property.

Beach access is nearby

As mentioned, the resort is in the downtown area of Tulum, but the resort operates a nearby beach club that guests can visit for a day of fun in the sun and sand. The beach club has two restaurants and a bar to keep clubgoers full and hydrated (don’t forget to drink water!). There are also ocean-facing Bali beds to relax on, plus private spa cabins and shower rooms and more to enjoy at the beach club.

And there’s even more to do

All-inclusive resorts are typically heavy on activities, and the new Secrets Tulum Resort & Beach Club is no exception. For some R&R, head to the Secrets Spa by Pevonia for a luxurious treatment, a couples massage or just to relax in the sauna or steam room. Join a yoga class, take a Spanish lesson or speak to the concierge about discounted rates at a nearby golf course or setting up a tour of the town’s Mayan ruins. Just don’t forget to set aside a little time to relax in paradise and take it all in.
