The previous generation Hyundai Tucson is still assembled in Pakistan.
PAMA data shows Pakistani sales of new locally-produced light vehicles spiral down -57% year-on-year in July to just 5,092 units, keeping in mind July 2022 was already off -52.5% on the year prior. Grave production issues linked to the non-availability of CKD parts due to the absence of Letters of Credit continue to brutally hamper the market. The year-to-date tally sinks -69.2% to 47,856. Note Changan and Kia do not report sales figures to PAMA but are reported to be quite successful here.
Suzuki (-63.4%) falls faster than the market but scores a solid 48% share vs. 40.6% so far this year. Toyota (-42.4%) outpaces the market to 26.9% share vs. 29.6% year-to-date but the hero of the month is Hyundai swimming upstream with a spectacular +183.1% year-on-year lift. Honda (-80.5%) is crushed while Sazgar Haval stays in 5th place. Model-wise, the Suzuki Alto (-68.8%) remains the outstanding best-seller above the Toyota Corolla (-38.4%) and Yaris (-38.5%). The Hyundai Tucson (+215.4%) and Honda BR-V & HR-V (+121.7%) impress below.
