Hyundai i30 Sedan leaked in sporty N Line trim

When Hyundai previewed its facelifted i30 Sedan, it only showed it in standard and N guise. Now, we’ve gotten a look at it in mid-strength guise thanks to a leak out of China.

Images taken in China and shared by Korean site Autospy show the Elantra, as the i30 Sedan is known in most markets, in sporty N Line trim.

The key change at the rear is a restyled bumper. There’s gloss black trim like on the current car, however the area finished in this trim has been squared-off.

There’s also a restyled front bumper, with the outgoing model’s diamond-shaped grille now split into separate grille and lower air intake areas bisected by brightwork.

Like the rest of the facelifted i30 Sedan range, the headlights no longer rise as prominently towards the fenders, and there’s a more squared-off look overall.

The local i30 Sedan range has yet to be detailed ahead of its launch in the second half of this year, though a hybrid is expected to belatedly join the Australian line-up.

Hyundai Korea has confirmed the updated sedan gets more safety equipment including rear-side airbags, which takes the total amount to eight, plus a surround-view camera and a Blind-Spot View Monitor in the digital instrument cluster.

Other features available in South Korea include Digital Key 2 Touch which allows you to unlock the car with your iPhone or Apple Watch, three USB-C ports, and an in-built dashcam.

The interior of the standard i30 Sedan is essentially unchanged, though there’s a new Sage Green colourway. We don’t expect any significant changes in the N Line.

The powertrains in the i30 Sedan carry over from the pre-update model in South Korea. This means the standard 2.0-litre naturally aspirated and the N Line’s 1.6-litre turbo four-cylinder petrol motors for the local core range will carry over for the 2024 model year.

Hyundai hasn’t detailed any changes to the turbo 2.0-litre four in the flagship N.

Launched locally in 2020, the i30 Sedan replaced the Elantra – a nameplate it still wears in markets like North America – and sits on newer underpinnings than the i30 hatch.

Hyundai sold 21,166 examples of the combined i30 range in Australia last year, putting it behind only the Toyota Corolla (25,284 sales) in its segment.
