Hyundai Ioniq 5 N: Sizzling electrical automotive’s reveal date confirmed

Hyundai has confirmed its hot Ioniq 5 N electric vehicle (EV) will make its public debut at this year’s Goodwood Festival of Speed.

It’s not clear at this stage if an online reveal will come sooner than the Festival, which will run from July 13 to 16.

Hyundai has only revealed a few details about the upcoming performance model, which we have experienced in prototype form.

It could produce more power than the Kia EV6 GT, with an output of potentially 600hp (447kW) – more than the 430kW output of its corporate cousin.

It uses a next-generation battery pack of around 80kWh, offering superior energy density to the regular Ioniq 5.

There’s a raft of new performance features, too, including a dedicated Drift Mode, an electronically controlled limited-slip differential, and a manual shift mode with simulated gears.

There’s also variable torque control, which in Track mode allows the driver to adjust the torque split between the front and rear axle anywhere from 100 per cent front-wheel drive to 100 per cent rear-wheel drive or 10 per cent intervals between.

The N performance model is also distinguished visually from lesser models with a deeper and more aggressive front spoiler and additional air vents.

Other visual changes include a wider track, wider fenders and lower ride height, as well as a roof spoiler and diffuser down back.

Like the regular Ioniq 5, the N will have a 800V electrical architecture capable of charging up to 350kW on DC and 11kW on three-phase AC charging.

The Ioniq 5 N will be the N division’s first electric car. The line-up currently includes the petrol-powered i20 N, i30 N, i30 Sedan N and Kona N.

Hyundai has previously teased a high-performance version of its recently released Ioniq 6 with the RN22e concept.
