New car sales in Ireland are up a robust 15.6% year-on-year in 2023 to 121,850 units. Toyota (+3%) retains the top spot in the brands charts but sees its market share thaw significantly from 15.2% to 13.6%. Volkswagen (+13.9%) overtakes Hyundai (-7.2%) to rank #2 while Skoda (+33.6%) bypasses Kia (+15.2%) to #4. Dacia (+39.5%), Audi (+21.3%), Ford (+19.4%) and BMW (+17.3%) also beat the market in the remainder of the Top 10 whereas Peugeot (-3.1%) falls. Further down, Tesla (+155.8%) is up five ranks to #13, with MG (+233.5%), Cupra (+150.8%), Seat (+67.2%) and Suzuki (+62.8%) also standing out.
Over in the models ranking, the Hyundai Tucson (-18.6%) easily threepeats at #1 despite a harsh year-on-year decline. The Kia Sportage (+3.4%) advances past the Toyota Corolla (-23.5%) to reach the 2nd spot overall, while the Toyota Yaris Cross (+34.4%) gains four spots to #4. The VW ID.4 (-2%) edges down but is more successful here than in most European markets. The Toyota Yaris (+2.8%) is up one ranking #6 whereas the Toyota C-HR (-15.4%) drops three to #7. The Nissan Qashqai (+46.7%) and Skoda Octavia (+42.3%) post the largest lifts in the Top 10 with the Hyundai Kona (+4.8%) not as dynamic at #10. Just below at #11, the Tesla Model Y (+2165.3%) soars no less than 130 spots on 2022. It peaked at a mammoth 21.7% share in June.
