Inexperienced Tea Shot – A Lovely Mess

One of the most popular shot recipes is the Green Tea Shot and after learning to make it, I understand why. The Green Tea shot contains no tea and gets its name from being the color of green tea. It’s also sometimes known as “Jameson Green Tea Shot.” This shot is made by combining Irish whiskey, peach schnapps, sweet and sour mix and a splash of lemon-lime soda. This recipe is sweet, fresh and honestly … delicious!

Ingredients in a Green Tea Shot

  • Irish Whiskey – I used Jameson.
  • Peach Schnapps – Adds sweetness and flavor.
  • Sweet and Sour Mix – We recommend making your own with our Sour Mix Recipe.
  • Lemon-Lime Soda – Such as Sprite or 7Up to top it off.

Here’s a link to the shot glasses I used. I also love this cocktail shaker.

How to make a Green Tea Shot

In a cocktail shaker, combine the Irish whiskey, peach schnapps and sour mix with ice. I recommend doubling or tripling your recipe to make all the shots you need in one shaker.

Next, give it a good shake for about 10 seconds.

Pour into your shot glasses until each glass is about 3/4 full.

Top each shot off with a bit of lemon-lime soda. Serve with limes and enjoy!

Tips for Making

  • Homemade sour mix is more delicious and so worth the effort if you want to make your own. It will give your shots more fresh citrus flavor.
  • If you don’t have Irish whiskey on hand, you can substitute for any kind of whiskey you do have without much consequence to the flavor of your shots.
  • The flavor of whiskey does not come through much in this recipe, but still if you don’t enjoy whiskey you can substitute it for vodka and this recipe will become the White Tea Shot instead.

History of the Green Tea Shot

This shot recipe was invented by the Jameson whiskey company as a fun way to enjoy their beverage. So if you want to be a purist, you should use Jameson in your recipe. It’s called a Green Tea Shot because the color of it is so close to green tea.
