Is that this Mercedes-Benz’s next-generation CLA?

Mercedes-Benz is gearing up to debut its newest models including what appears to be a successor to its CLA at this year’s Munich motor show.

The brand released a photo of a CLA-shaped silhouette alongside the announcement that it will reveal a new concept car that “redefines the Mercedes-Benz Entry Segment”.

However, the company hasn’t released any further details about the vehicle.

In the image that we’ve brightened, the body appears identical to that of the recently spied CLA successor, down to the shape of the exterior mirrors.

The concept features a sleek silhouette with a rakish windscreen and short rear deck.

There is what appears to be a chrome strip that runs from the headlights to the front doors, which then re-emerges on the rear doors and continues to the tail lights.

The teaser image doesn’t appear to show any door handles on either doors, however it’s worth noting the spied CLA prototype shows the door handles in place of the chrome strip.

The new concept is expected to be the first model within Mercedes-Benz’s Entry Luxury line-up to use the new MMA platform.

The platform will support both internal combustion and electric powertrains, and will replace the current MFA2 platform underpinning the existing CLA as well as models like the A-Class.

Spied prototypes of the next CLA have shown it will be offered with both petrol and electric power.

The current CLA is offered with petrol, diesel, and plug-in hybrid power depending on the market, but it has never offered an electric version – unlike the related GLA and GLB, which spawned the electric EQA and EQB.

Mercedes-Benz has announced from 2025 onwards all of its newly launched vehicle architectures will be electric-only, so the new MMA platform will slot in just before that deadline.

The company has also confirmed it will reduce the number of Entry Luxury models from seven cars to just four.

Mercedes-Benz has teased the new model just six months after revealing a facelifted version of the outgoing CLA.

It’s arriving in Australia in the third quarter of 2023.
