Japanese automobile manufacturers ranked by 2022 gross sales and manufacturing


Toyota

  • Global sales: 9,566,961, down 0.5 per cent
  • Global production: 9,026,713, up 5.2 per cent

Japanese production totalled 2,656,009 (down 7.7 per cent), whereas overseas production was 6,370,704 (up 11.7 per cent).

Honda

  • Global sales: N/A
  • Global production: 3,870,161, down 6.4 per cent

Japanese production totalled 643,973 (up 4.6 per cent), whereas overseas production was 3,226,188 (down 8.3 per cent) – led by China (1,424,120) and USA (831,908).

Nissan

  • Global sales: 3,225,549, down 20.7 per cent
  • Global production: 3,250,800, down 9.4 per cent

Japanese production totalled 559,314 (up 12.6 per cent), whereas overseas production was 2,691,486 (down 12.9 per cent) – led by China (1,057,598) and USA (538,750).

Suzuki

  • Global sales: 2,968,494, up 7.4 per cent
  • Global production: 3,172,192, up 10.7 per cent

Japanese production totalled 919,891 (up 5.1 per cent), whereas overseas production was 2,252,301 (up 13.1 per cent) – led by Maruti Suzuki India (1,916,040, up 15 per cent).

Daihatsu

  • Global sales: 766,091, up 5.6 per cent
  • Global production: 1,408,795, up 6.4 per cent

Japanese production totalled 869,161 (down 1.1 per cent), whereas overseas production was 539,634 (up 21 per cent).

Mazda

  • Global sales: 1,116,107, down 13.3 per cent
  • Global production: 1,091,896, up 1.6 per cent

Japanese production totalled 734,833 (down 0.1 per cent), whereas overseas production was 2,252,301 (up 13.1 per cent). The CX-5 was Mazda’s top-seller with 365,135 units, down 4.4 per cent.

Mitsubishi

  • Global sales: N/A
  • Global production: 1,012,408, down 3.5 per cent

Japanese production totalled 440,762 (up 0.3 per cent), whereas overseas production was 571,646 (down 6.2 per cent). Thai production (eg. Triton, Pajero Sport) fell 10.9 per cent to 279,074 units.

Subaru

  • Global sales: N/A
  • Global production: 848,867, up 14 per cent

Japanese production totalled 562,601 (up 18.4 per cent), whereas overseas production was 286,266 (up 6.2 per cent). Overall production growth was the first such result in five years.
