JetBlue and climate tech company Chooose have partnered for customer contributions toward the purchase of sustainable aviation fuel, the carrier announced Monday.
JetBlue customers can access a dedicated climate platform powered by Chooose that enables them to estimate their carbon emissions for flights, and then contribute to a fund used by the carrier to help cover the cost premium of SAF compared with traditional jet fuel.
“The call from our customers for more sustainable air travel has only gotten louder and louder,” JetBlue director of sustainability and environmental social governance Sara Bogdan said in a statement.
The new option is geared toward individual customers and supplements the JetBlue Sustainable Travel Partners program for corporate customers, launched in January 2022. That program has since helped source more than 1.6 million gallons of SAF, according to JetBlue.
In addition, SAF comprised about 0.3 percent of the carrier’s 2022 fuel use, according to JetBlue, which noted the fuel still is in short supply. JetBlue said that by contributing toward the purchase of additional SAF through Chooose, customers can “send a critical signal of consumer demand for more sustainable air options and help grow the emerging SAF market.”
