JetBlue beginning Sept. 6 will allow basic-economy Blue Basic passengers one free carry-on bag, space permitting, in addition to a small personal item, the carrier announced Tuesday. Currently, the Blue Basic fare includes only a personal item. Any carry-on bags brought to the gate currently would be checked with a $65 fee for a first- or second-checked bag, $180 for a third-checked bag.
Exceptions include Mosaic loyalty program members, transatlantic travelers, customers combining a Blue Basic fare with an Even More Space seat, active U.S. military and unaccompanied minors, according to JetBlue.
Blue Basic is JetBlue basic-economy fare, a type that many travel buyers have said is not included in their programs, however the fares could appeal to unmanaged travel programs for small and midsize enterprises.
