Conducting over 100 interviews, what do you believe has been the key to building such strong, meaningful connections with your guests?
I operate from a true place of genuine curiosity. I do my research beforehand, and I know the subject matter that I am speaking to the talent about prior to an interview. However, when you allow for the authentic human interaction of it all to come into play, I think that is when I’ve noticed that my most meaningful connections have formed. I’ve also noticed that I have maintained more connections and remained in touch with those who could tell that I was speaking to them as if they were a person and not a celebrity of any sort.
Preparation is important, but what would you say is the secret to being a great interviewer?
I would say, in my experience, that engaging your active listening skills would be the most important skill to being a great interviewer. You must demonstrate the utmost support, genuine interest, and curiosity when it comes to speaking with your guest. They can tell if your mind is elsewhere or if your interest is not present, so you must engage your listening skills, be present, and be focused.
You’ve interviewed a remarkable range of celebrities, from Sydney Sweeney to Bert Kreischer. Are there any particular interviews that stand out to you as truly memorable or impactful?
I learn so much from myself and each of my guests when conducting interviews.
Bert was very memorable because of the nature of the red carpet setup that he had in LA for the premiere of his movie The Machine. He was very much in his element because the carpet was set up to mimic a carnival-like layout, with many game stations such as axe throwing, beer pong, and so on. He was so kind, and I will say that the expression “don’t meet your heroes” can sometimes ring true, but not at all in this case.
Naturally, when I found out that I was going to interview Bert, I was beyond excited because I’d seen every standup special of his multiple times. When the time came to speak to him, I am beyond thrilled to say that he was genuinely one of the nicest celebrities that I’ve ever had the opportunity to interview. Bert was a great listener, and he exhibited so much gratitude to be in his position.
So…if you can meet your heroes, do it!
Have you ever heard anything in an interview that made you go, “Wait, this is great advice, I should make this a part of my life”?
Yes! I resonate with the stories that are shared and their overarching themes. I find that in conversations, I learn so much about people. That is honestly why I absolutely love what I do- I have the privilege of learning about so many wonderful people and their journeys. I pull from conversations so often, and it’s an honor to be able to listen firsthand to my guests about their views and experiences. I revere every conversation so greatly and dearly, and I most definitely have had positive influences in my life that have come from conversations with those of influence.
You’re about to take on an exciting new role as host and producer of The Hannah Fletcher Show. What inspired you to create this platform, and what do you hope to bring to the talk show landscape?
I am thrilled to pioneer a talk show that is designed to cater to an overlooked audience when it comes to the typical talk show format: the younger generation.
With The Hannah Fletcher Show, we are looking to incorporate segments that are designed to start conversations and break stigmas surrounding the taboo ideas of becoming an adult in the world. Through the conversations that are shared with guests, to segments that are built out to help with rising economic status, the show is crafted to inspire and uplift those who need it most. This whole process has been incredible, and to have an amazing team with my Executive Producer, Eric Wheelwright, at the helm- I feel that the show is going to open up so many wonderful opportunities to our society.
You’ve lined up a stellar guest list for The Hannah Fletcher Show, including Lainie Kazan, Gary Anthony Williams, and Sofia Gomez. What excites you most about these upcoming conversations?
I am so excited for the audience to be able to really see and hear these celebrities, as well as their stories. Each guest divulged what we have deemed as “nuggets of wisdom” that they’d picked up on in their life- whether it be in their career or in their personal life. Additionally, I feel that each guest was successfully provided with the space to open up and share more of their stories, beyond what people may even know them for. The lineup is absolutely incredible, and I am so thrilled for the audience to not only grow with the guests but with The Hannah Fletcher Show as it evolves and grows as well.
If you could interview anyone, living or dead, who would it be and why?
I feel that Dick Van Dyke would be absolutely incredible to interview! Growing up, I was such a huge fan of Mary Poppins and it would be a delight to be able to have a deep-dive conversation with him.
Volunteering with S.T.R.E.A.M. to help children access resources for success shows your commitment to giving back. How do you balance this important work with your fast-paced career?
Thank you so much for saying this. Balance is absolutely integral to any career. I do love the idea of giving back and being philanthropic. It is an honor to be in any position where I can create a positive influence and make an impact, especially when it comes to giving back. Though life has been very fast-paced, I strive to find as well as create time and space to volunteer and connect with anyone I can in any way possible. With this, I make sure to intake material that is grounding so I can be a positive source to those around me…whether it be in life or in my philanthropic work. When it comes to inspiring others and giving back- I am always present and ready to take on these endeavors.
