“Heatwave Delirium is a song about having a strong attraction to someone that you aren’t necessarily compatible with long term.” Jazzie Young says about the steamy record. A song written for the romantic collective the lyrics follow the story of that kind of push-pull relationship we can all relate to, while the production elements keep you energized and euphoric. The song and video alike keep things sexy noir while still holding a firm grip on the reality of feelings that come on strong and burn out quickly.
Drenched in satin and blood Jazzie paints a picture of a relationship that was full of highs and lows. “It wasn’t a very healthy or long-lived relationship, but the intensity of attraction was so magnetic it made me feel a bit delirious. I liked the idea of comparing it to when a city has a heatwave.” Jazzie goes on to narrate. “Heat affects everyone and intensifies their personalities. The whole city can get a little wild, and that’s kind of what this experience felt like to me. I brought it to my producer, John Velasquez, and he helped me re-write certain parts and restructure the song into a concept that was even more succinct and poetic.”
We recommend listening to this song in your skivvies and taking a cold shower afterward.
