Maty Noyes is a talented singer-songwriter who has been making waves in the music industry since she burst onto the scene in 2015. With a unique voice that is both haunting and soulful, Noyes has captivated audiences around the world with her heartfelt lyrics and catchy melodies.
One of the things that sets Noyes apart from other artists is her ability to tell a story through her music. Each of her songs is like a mini-narrative, with vivid characters and emotions that draw the listener in and keep them engaged from beginning to end. Whether singing about heartbreak, self-discovery, or the ups and downs of love, Noyes always manages to strike a chord with her audience.
Another standout feature of Noyes’ music is her powerful voice. Many of your songs seem to be deeply personal, touching on themes of love, heartbreak, and self-discovery. How do you draw inspiration for your music, and how do you navigate the vulnerability of sharing your personal experiences through your lyrics? On that note does vulnerability come naturally to you?
Whenever I’m writing a song, I’m never thinking at that moment that anyone will actually hear it, so I’m not even thinking about it as being vulnerable. I’m just being as honest and truthful as I possibly can be to myself. If I don’t tell it how it is, I can’t move on from it or process it, analyze it, & understand myself better. When it comes time to share it with the world, I don’t mind sharing my truth. For some reason, it’s never bothered me. It seems like the price to pay for being an artist that writes their own songs, and it’s a way that I can genuinely connect with people. That doesn’t scare me, it excites me! The inspiration comes from enjoying my life. I don’t spend all my time working on music – half the time I’m traveling or with family or friends. I love adventures with my dog and being in nature, cooking for big groups of people, and just keep talking. laughing, and living in the moment. This fills my heart and brings me inspiration far more than going to look for it or trying to force it.
You’ve collaborated with a number of other artists throughout your career, including Kygo, The Weeknd, and A-Trak. What has been one of your favorite collaborations to date, and what do you enjoy most about working with other musicians?
It’s hard to top The Weeknd as that was such a wild ride. He really put me on out here in Los Angeles and helped me get my career started so I hold it close to my heart. Collaboration is incredible, especially with an artist you look up to and love. There’s nothing like someone else bringing their own magic to a track and doing something you would’ve never thought of doing. Bringing something out inside of you that you weren’t expecting is the best surprise and can result in something beautiful that will live on forever.

I was blessed enough to listen to some of your unreleased music and first and foremost a huge congratulations to you. They are all amazing songs and some tracks that we are super excited about. Today, your song “Lighter Thief” was released, can you tell me a little bit about your new song Lighter Thief, and the writing process?
Wow, thank you so much! That means so much to me! I wrote this song with three of the most important people in my life. We were in my living room, and when one of my friends started playing the chords on the guitar, the melody came out effortlessly within seconds following it. We all looked around and could tell we were onto something special. My favorite songs are the ones that just happen fast. I wanted the lyrics to symbolize the feeling of choosing to love someone even though it wasn’t always perfect because it was worth it for the good moments – not just good moments, but truly great ones. The lighter thief represents the antihero. He’s the one in the movie that you low-key want to win even though you don’t know why. He gives you just enough hope to keep holding on because there is actually a chance that he could get better. He’s worth the risk. He’s proof that some people do change if they want to. Better to feel something and get burned, than to have never felt anything at all. I’m thankful to have ever loved at all so I can’t fixate on the outcome. It’s all about the moment.
Let’s chat about the music video for “Lighter Thief.” The teaser looks fantastic and we are so excited for you to share the official music video soon! We are honored to have the teaser trailer for the official music video of the single. I am wondering how you translated the meaning behind the song to any artistic styles or choices in the music video?
This video shows the moments that go on inside of a relationship that no one else sees, all from the POV of the guy, aka the “Lighter Thief.” It gives you a look inside their private life, and makes you almost feel like you shouldn’t be watching it. What really goes on behind closed doors, when no one else is around but just the two of you? We took real everyday moments and mixed them with very cinematic shots, representing deeper symbolism of the meaning of the song itself. You don’t see the guy’s face once in the video, but you feel his presence come to life in so many ways. When I set the bed on fire, for instance, it symbolizes setting the love on fire, throwing caution to the wind, and embracing what makes you feel alive. Even if it isn’t always perfect, I wanted the video to feel how this song made me feel – intimate and personal, but relatable. because we all go through our own little worlds that exist inside our relationships.

With sharing your music comes some amazing experiences. You’ve made appearances in the film and TV industry, with your music being featured in shows like “13 Reasons Why” and “Shadowhunters.” I used to write with artists and whenever our song made it on a TV show, we would get so excited because that is such a big deal. How does it feel to have your music used in visual media, and do you have any plans to further explore this side of the entertainment industry?
I want to explore every side of the industry!!! Working with so many different genres and moods and emotions within this project, I feel like the songs would fit well in TV, film, sync, and even pitching for other artists. When you are an artist, who is also a writer, you have so many songs just sitting in a box that would work so well for a number of things!!! It’s also another great way to make money in this industry, especially since it’s almost impossible to make sustainable money doing what we do.
You’ve been praised for your live performances and have toured extensively throughout your career. What do you enjoy most about performing live, and what have been some of your most memorable moments on stage?
My favorite moments on stage are the ones I never plan for, when I’m so in the moment that I just start speaking from the heart and really connect with the crowd and feeling safe enough to do so. When that happens naturally, nothing is better. But my favorite part about touring thus far is getting to meet fans after the show face to face and getting to genuinely connect with them is unbeatable.
With these amazing experiences, what are some of the biggest lessons you’ve learned from being in the music industry, and what advice would you give to aspiring musicians just starting out?
Stay organized and keep track of the songs you write as you go, before you know it, you’ll have hundreds. The industry is constantly changing, so be a part of that change and demand the respect you deserve! Don’t give up all your rights and sign your life away to do something that you’re stuck in forever if it’s not working out. Protect yourself, secure your future and set up a loophole to always have a way out!!!

My mission as an artist is to be a voice for those who also can’t fit into a box and be just one thing. We are multi-faceted human beings, to me it’s something to celebrate as being different is a good thing, and I make music for everyone. I’ll never limit myself to one group of people, one sound, one idea. We are all so much more than that.
