LDV reveals new electrical Toyota HiAce rival with 1.2-tonne payload

SAIC Motor’s Maxus brand, known here as LDV, has revealed the new electric eDeliver 7 mid-sized van with two battery options and more than 360km of range.

It will go on sale in the UK market in the second half of the year.

Ateco, the local distributor for LDV, has previously confirmed it will launch a new mid-sized cargo van in the fourth quarter of this year with both combustion and electric powertrains and a choice of three roof options, though it hasn’t confirmed any other details. The eDeliver7 seems a logical fit.

The van slots in underneath the eDeliver9, measuring 5364mm long, 2030mm wide, 1190mm tall on a 3366mm wheelbase. That’s around the size of a Ford Transit Custom.

The eDeliver 7 will have two battery pack options with the smaller 77kWh battery pack capable of 226 miles (363km) of range on the stricter WLTP cycle, while the larger 88kWh battery can stretch its range by an additional 20-30 miles (32-48kms).

The electric motor outputs are 150kW of power and 330Nm of torque which drives power to the front wheels.

The claimed 0-100km/h time is 11 seconds.

The battery supports both AC and DC charging and with the latter, it can be charged from 20-80 per cent in 46 minutes. With AC charging, it can take up to eight hours to complete a full charge.

The van has up to a 1.2-tonne payload and is capable of towing 1500kg.

According to Auto Express, Maxus will offer three body sizes including: a L1H1 with a 3000mm wheelbase which has 5.9m3 of cargo space; the L2H1 with 6.7m3 of cargo space; and lastly a high-roof L2H2 model with up to 8.7m3 of cargo space.

All variations come with three driving modes and a suite of safety features including blind-spot monitoring, lane-keep assist, autonomous emergency braking, driver fatigue detection, front and rear parking sensors and a 360-degree camera.

It uses the same 12.3-inch infotainment screen as the MIFA and MIFA 9.

Maxus has developed its own infotainment software that can integrate Apple CarPlay and Android Auto.

This will be the sixth electric vehicle for the Maxus/LDV brand in seven years.

In Australia, LDV recently launched three electric vehicles. It sells the eDeliver 9 van alongside the eT60 ute and MIFA 9 people mover.
