‘Running Through History: 40 Years of the Race Across the Sky’ film premiere is slated for this evening, November 8. Originally a smaller race known to some Colorado runners, the Leadville Trail 100 (and entire Leadville 100 series) is now known around the world — and welcomes runners not just from Colorado and the U.S., but also from England, Germany, France, Spain, Mexico, Australia, Canada, South America, and beyond.
What is the “Race Across the Sky”? The Leadville Trail 100 is 100 miles, 18,000 feet of elevation, tops out at Hope Pass at 12,600 feet, was first run in 1983, and is the highest 100-miler race in the world. (Leadville, Colo., sits at just under 10,200 feet.) The film follows the profiles of four iconic runners across the history of the race, as well as race organizers and others involved through original race footage from years prior.
