If you love bran flakes and want a delicious change of pace for breakfast, then you may want to try my easy bran scones recipe. This is another original scone recipe that I created that is low in sugar and salt-free, but a great tasty treat for breakfast, brunch, or snacking with candied cherries and raisins. These are tender and moist and even better fresh and warm from the oven. So let me share these healthy scones with you because I think you will enjoy them too!
Seriously, readers, this easy scone recipe will take you about ten minutes to make. The first five minutes don’t even count because you’re just soaking the bran flakes with the liquids to soften them. In all honesty, you’re just mixing all the ingredients to well combine them before patting the dough down into a circle, cutting them and placing them on your greased baking pan to send to your oven.
Try lining up all the ingredients that you’ll need for the recipe first on your kitchen table or counter will save you even more time. You might be surprised at how much faster your baking or cooking can progress instead of stopping to walk to the refrigerator and cupboard or pantry to hunt for those ingredients. It also will help prevent tiring yourself out from needless extra steps that you might go to retrieve what is needed.
I think that once you try my salt-free bran scones that you’ll be hooked on them too for how delectable they are. Please feel free to share this recipe with your family and friends as well.
Bran Scones Recipe
2-1/3 cups of sifted flour
1 cup of bran flakes
1/4 cup of sugar
1/3 cup of candied green cherries, chopped
1 teaspoon of vanilla
1/3 cup of raisins
2 ½ teaspoons of baking powder, leveled
½ cups of milk
1 large egg
1/3 cup of canola oil
In a large mixing bowl, add the bran flakes and milk, and oil first. Mix and let this rest for about five minutes.
Now stir in the egg, and vanilla extract next before combining the flour, sugar, and baking powder. Stir well to make sure all the ingredients are thoroughly mixed and well
Add the raisins and chopped candied green cherries next to incorporate.
Pat down the dough to form a somewhat thick circle about eight inches around and two inches high. Then cut in half, then divide each half into thirds before placing on your greased baking pan. (If the dough becomes slightly sticky when lifting it after cutting, then pat the palm of hands with a little flour helps remedy that).
Bake in a 400-degree oven for about 12-15 minutes, depending on how your oven is regulated and the size of the scones you cut. The bottom will be gently brown.
ENJOY!
