Lufthansa Group beginning Dec. 4 will expand its “Green Fares” offering to its worldwide network, the company announced Wednesday. The fares will be bookable in all travel classes across all the group’s carriers, including Lufthansa, Swiss, Austrian Airlines, Brussels Airlines, Edelweiss, Discover Airlines and Air Dolomiti.
The company’s Green Fares include compensation for carbon emissions within the ticket price through the use of sustainable aviation fuel and contributions to climate protection projects, according to Lufthansa.
For flights within Europe and Africa, SAF use reduces CO2 emissions by 20 percent achieved through sustainable aviation fuel, with the remaining 80 percent offset through climate-protection projects. On intercontinental routes, SAF reduces 10 percent of CO2 emissions with the remaining 90 percent offset, according to Lufthansa.
Lufthansa in August 2022 initially tested Green Fares in the Scandinavian market, then in February 2023 introduced them across its short-haul flights. The company next tested Green Fares on 12 long-haul routes beginning about a year ago.
