Lyft to Develop ‘Inexperienced Mode’ for EV, Hybrid Requests

Ride-hailing company Lyft is set to expand to several U.S. cities on April 17 its “Green mode,” which allows users to request an electric or hybrid vehicle through the Lyft app, the company announced Thursday.

Lyft’s Green mode currently is available in Portland, Ore., and initially will expand into 14 new markets: Austin, Boston, Chicago, Denver, Los Angeles, New York, Phoenix, Sacramento, San Diego, San Francisco, Seattle, Washington, D.C., and California’s Orange County and Silicon Valley, according to the company.

Riders with a Lyft Business profile will be the first to gain access to Green, according to Lyft.

“We’ve seen an explosion of interest in EVs,” said Lyft director of sustainability Paul Augustine in a company blog post. “By rolling out ‘Green’ across the country, we can nudge riders to take more sustainable forms of travel, helping us reach our shared climate goals sooner and ultimately reducing our carbon footprint faster.”

Lyft has committed to having 100 percent of the cars on its platform be electric by the end of 2030.

Lyft Business in January added a new tool for corporate customers to track greenhouse gas emissions.
