March 2023 Month in Overview

March was a wild ride! Something about the spring season is hitting differently this year. Perhaps it’s because here in Minnesota we’ve been under snow since early November? I am not sure I care about the reason as much as I look forward to the momentum and energy I feel building.

Here’s a peek into what we got up to in March 2023 and what it all felt like for me…

I began the month by kicking off our March theme on Wit & Delight, which was all about decorating with COLOR. On the evening of March 1, I chatted about design on Instagram Live with Rivki Rabinowitz. I really enjoyed our conversation. If you missed it, you can listen to it right here.

On March 3, Joe and I went to a friend’s house for a fun dinner. We cooked out of the Ottolenghi Simple cookbook. I made a delicious gnocchi dish.

On March 5, I went to a really beautiful outdoor dinner that a friend of mine hosted. We ate oysters, cassoulet, and chocolate pots de crème. Most of the other guests were people I hadn’t met before and it was really fun to get to know them.

This month, I started feeling like myself again after having COVID in February. I started teaching myself more advanced chess strategies. I ate a lot of plums. When I wasn’t dining out or with friends, I made an effort to eat more plant-based foods in general.

I worked on organizing my closet and refining my style a bit more. I also did some shopping for spring break clothes. This amazing one-piece swimsuit by Robin Piccone was one of my favorite purchases.

On March 10, while packing for spring break, Joe and I had a movie night at home. We watched two classics that are now somehow decades old—The Royal Tenenbaums and Lost in Translation.

On March 11, our entire family left for spring break in Arizona. We rented a house with friends whose kids are similar ages to August and Birdie. We did cold plunges in the pool (unfortunately, the pool heater was broken until our last day) and went to a Cubs training game. It was a wild and awesome trip—but not at all relaxing.

We came home to Minnesota on March 17. I started a spring cleaning spree around the house and donated a bunch of our kids’ clothes. Throughout the week of March 20, I had a few people come to the house to give estimates for potential future home projects.

On March 23, I hosted a book club with a group of friends. This month, we read Tomorrow, and Tomorrow, and Tomorrow. It’s one of the most beautiful books I’ve read in a long time.

March was a big month for Birdie. She learned how to ride a bike without training wheels! She’s also gotten very into drawing and making things out of paper.

The beginning of spring always symbolizes a fresh start for me. I’m eager to get into a new swing of things this April. It’s still quite cold here in Minnesota, but the change of seasons is just around the corner. I can feel it.
