Maserati leans on legends to create particular GranTurismo

Maserati has revealed the GranTurismo Launch Edition PrimaSerie 75th Anniversary as well as three new one-of-a-kind GranTurismo models, one of which pays homage to a series of iconic models from the brand.

The luxury carmaker showcased the PrimaSerie at Milan Design Week. It will be produced in four configurations, with a total run of just 300 units.

75 examples will have an internal combustion engine and be finished in Grigio Lamiera with another 75 finished in Nero Cometa paint.

The rest will be Folgore models: 75 examples in Rame Folgore paint, and 75 in Blu Inchiostro.

Maserati also revealed the GranTurismo One Off PrismaGranTurismo One Off Luce and GranTurismo One Off Ouroboros.

Based on the GranTurismo Folgore, the One Off Ouroboros was designed in collaboration with street culture innovator Hiroshi Fujiwara and pays homage to multiple heritage Maseratis.

The front grille takes inspiration from the Maserati A6GCS Berlinetta Pininfarina, the side vents resemble those of the Maserati 3500 GT and the round headlights are characteristically similar to the 1960s racers like the Maserati Tipi 151.

The forged alloy wheel design resembles that of the Maserati Bora from the 1970s, while the tail light design resembles that of the Maserati Shamal from the 1990s.

“GranTurismo Ouroboros has been conceived as a visual and cultural link between the various eras of Maserati design and the current GranTurismo generation,” said Hiroshi Fujiwara.

“We worked with Maserati team to connect the pinnacle of tech and performance that they have today with the icons of style that generated and fuelled the myth through the decades.”

The One Off Prisma features the Nettuno twin-turbo V6 and is finished in 14 different colours, all painted by hand. The paintwork includes two new tones, while the remaining 12 colours have been taken from the historic Maserati colour palette.

Notable colours include the Amaranto finish of the 1947 Maserati A6 1.500 and Oro Longchamps from the 1973 Maserati Khamsin.

The One Off Luce, based on the electric Folgore, includes unique chrome paintwork with an engraved laser-etched pattern which makes the colour almost absent and blend into its surroundings.

The interior uses blue regenerated nylon yarn upholstery that takes inspiration from the sea, which is where the sustainable material originates from.

The vehicles will tour around the world to give car enthusiasts a chance to experience the one-of-a-kind vehicles up close.
