Mazda CX-5 repeats at #1 in depleted market – Finest Promoting Automobiles Weblog

The Mazda CX-5 is the best-selling vehicle in Vietnam for the 2nd month running

According to local association VAMA, the Vietnamese new vehicle market skids -24.2% year-on-year in September to 25,375, bringing the year-to-date tally to 209,929, down -29.2% on the same period in 2022. These figures climb to 34,752 (-17.5%) and 272,577 (-26.5%) when adding Hyundai who reports separately. Note VinFast is now reporting global sales quarterly. It says it sold 10,027 units over Q3, with the vast majority (almost 100%) being in Vietnam so we’ve estimated sales for the company for August and September (not for models though).

Hyundai (-31.1%) reclaims the lead of the manufacturers charts with 17.2% share vs. 15.1% so far this year. It dislodges Thaco-Kia (-9.6%) resisting much better than the market. Hyundai remains at #1 year-to-date above Thaco-Kia. Toyota (-53.1%) completely implodes but still manages a third position, the same as it holds year-to-date. Mazda (+91.2%) goes completely against the negative trend with a phenomenal year-on-year improvement. VinFast is estimated to rank #5 with 9.8% share and #7 with 7.9% year-to-date. Ford (+7%) also defies the depleted context with a small year-on-year uptick. BMW/Mini (+314.3%), Lexus (+30.1%) and Honda (+29.6%) also impress.

Over in the models ranking, the Mazda CX-5 (+339.8%) quadruples its sales year-on-year to repeat at #1 with 5.8% share. It advances to #4 year-to-date as a result vs. #8 over the Full Year 2022. The Mitsubishi Xpander (-20.6%) remains in 2nd place with 5.5% share and cements its YTD leadership with 5.2% share. The Hyundai Accent (-40.6%) freefalls year-on-year but rallies back up three spots on August to #3. Same situation for the Toyota Vios (-37.5%) hit hard year-on-year but up 18 ranks on last month to #4 vs. #7 year-to-date. The Kia Seltos (+28.9%) and Sonet (+27.1%) also make themselves noticed in the remainder of the Top 10 while the new Honda BR-V leaps up 16 spots on August to break into the Top 10 for the first time at #9.
