McLaren celebrates its crowning glory with bespoke version

McLaren has revealed its most unusual livery ever with its 750S with 3-7-59 Theme in honour of the marque’s historic ‘Triple Crown’ motorsport success winning the Indianapolis 500, Monaco Grand Prix and 24 Hours of Le Mans.

3-7-59 mirror the race numbers of the three winning cars that each won in their respective races in 1974, 1984 and 1995.

McLaren F1 driver Lando Norris did the honours at luxury motorsports festival Velocity International at Sonoma Raceway in California, along with McLaren IndyCar driver Pato O’Ward, and Derek Bell who twice raced a McLaren F1 GTR at Le Mans.

Just six bespoke cars will be built, each with slight variations in the unique ‘3-7-59 Theme’, in either 750S coupe or spider guise. All have been pre-sold to customers in the United States, Asia, Middle East and Europe.

The bespoke multi-coloured exterior incorporates more than 20 colours and is the result of more than 1200 hours of hand-painting by highly skilled spray painters from McLaren Special Operations (MSO) using specialised equipment.

The front of the car pays homage to white/red livery of the McLaren MP4/2 that Alain Prost drove to victory at Monaco in 1984, while the number ‘7’ worn on the bonnet is reflected in the shattered paint design.

Each side of the 3-7-59 Theme pays tribute to the 1995 Le Mans-winning McLaren F1 GTR, which wore a grey colour pattern and ‘59’ race number – even down to the green dot on the car that demoted its GT1 class in the iconic 24-hour race.

The rear-third of the car is inspired by the McLaren M16D with its orange colour as the 1974 Indy 500 winner, but just like the race car, the 3-7-59 Theme car wears its number ‘3’ in blue. On the same side as the race number, the orange paint morphs into the F1 GTR’s grey colour scheme using a swirling chequered flag effect.

On the other side there’s a splash of blue inspired by the colour of the car’s race number, using a vector process with bursts across the panels. There are four shades of blue used within the splash for a 3-D effect, but still flush with the surface of the car.

More of an homage to the Triple Crown-winning cars is found on the Satin Black ultra-lightweight Vortex wheels, with contrasting brake calipers finished in blue, red and Le Mans Gold.

There are easter eggs found on the car as well – including three QR codes within each of the six bespoke liveries. Each of these takes you to a live portal to a webpage detailing the particular car.

In certain light conditions, there’s a reflected ‘3-7-59’ treatment which shines on the bracket housing within the headlight assembly. And at the rear, there’s an electrochromic MSO logo that illuminates within the brake light.

These bespoke editions also include exterior detailing in genuine silver leaf applied using gilding techniques developed in-house at McLaren. There’s also a Triple Crown logo in Silver but with a patina finish.

Inside, there are more Triple Crown logo designs, stitched in orange into the headrests of its standard carbon-fibre racing seats. Even the centre armrest gets a debossed version.

The seats also feature special Triple Crown motifs etched into graphite Alcantara with contrast white stitching.

There’s carbon-fibre door trim painted with the same artwork as on the seats, a painted 12 o’clock marker on the steering wheel rim, along with hand-painted carbon-fibre paddleshifters with that same red-white shattered effect on the nose of the 3-7-59 as a further nod to the McLaren MP4/2 race car.

Even the pedals are marked with laser-etched artwork matching some of the exterior details, with a ceramic coating adorned with white, black and orange Triple Crown stars. Those same stars are also found on the carbon-fibre door sills.

Another hidden gem is found on the car’s dedication plaque that encompasses a genuine piece of red and white McLaren Formula 1 car carbon-fibre bodywork.

We’re told that owners of these rare McLaren 750S 3-7-59 Theme cars can expect to pay around twice the cost of a regular 750S.

The McLaren 750S is the direct successor to the successful 720S and features a number of improvements making it more powerful, lighter and quicker.

Its twin-turbo V8 makes 551kW of power and 800Nm of torque and can go from 0-100km/h in 2.8 seconds, while 0-200km/h takes just 7.2 seconds.
