The Mercedes-Benz EQE SUV is set to launch locally in September, with government documents seen by CarExpert confirming it’s now been approved for sale.
The EQE SUV was first revealed in October last year and slots under the larger EQS SUV that’s also built at the brand’s US factory in Alabama. It’s also the SUV counterpart to the EQE electric sedan that has already launched locally.
The approval documents list four different variants: EQE 300 SUV, EQE 350 4Matic SUV, EQE 500 4Matic SUV, and AMG EQE 53 4Matic+ SUV.
It’s unclear if all four of these Mercedes-Benz EQE SUV variants will be launching locally as sometimes manufacturers approve certain variants for sale but don’t end up offering them.
We’ve reached out to Mercedes-Benz Australia in regards to the local EQE SUV line-up and will update this story once we hear back.
According to the approval documents, the entry-level EQE 300 SUV is powered by a single rear-mounted electric motor producing 180kW of power. This particular variant hasn’t been detailed to date.
The EQE 350 4Matic SUV and EQE 500 4Matic SUV are both powered by a dual-electric motor all-wheel drive setup producing system outputs of 215kW and 300kW, respectively.
The flagship AMG EQE 53 4Matic+ is also powered by a dual-electric motor all-wheel drive setup, but it produces a total system output of 460kW.
The approval documents don’t list the EQE SUV’s high-voltage battery capacity, though all models are understood to receive a 90.6kWh pack on a 400V electric architecture.
The Mercedes-Benz EQE SUV measures in at 4868mm long, 1940mm wide, and 1685mm tall with a 3030mm wheelbase. The AMG EQE 53 4Matic+ SUV is slightly longer at 4881mm, and lower at 1672mm.
In terms of overall length, it slots in between the 4716mm-long GLC and the 4924mm-long GLE.
Local pricing and specifications have yet to to be announced for the EQE SUV.
The approval documents list the non-AMG EQE SUV models as receiving 21-inch AMG multi-spoke alloy wheels, but can be optioned to receive 22-inch AMG multi-spoke units.
The flagship AMG EQE 53 4Matic+ SUV on the other hand comes exclusively with 22-inch AMG multi-spoke alloy wheels. It can also be optioned with carbon ceramic brakes.
Mercedes-Benz Australia has said it expects the EQE SUV to generate the highest interest of all EQ models.
CarExpert understands this could translate to stronger sales figures than not only the EQE sedan, but also the wider EQ range.
