Mercedes-Benz has revealed updated versions of its EQA and EQB electric SUVs which bring minor changes inside and out, as well as more technology.
A Mercedes-Benz Australia spokesperson has confirmed the updated Mercedes-Benz EQA and EQB will be arriving locally in the second quarter of 2024.
They also said it’s too early to say if the local EQA and EQB line-ups will change with the update. Both the Mercedes-Benz EQA and EQB are available in single-motor ‘250’ guise, as well as a dual-motor all-wheel drive ‘350’.
The Mercedes-Benz EQA is only available as a five-seater, whereas the EQB is available as a five- or seven-seater. The latter is only available in the single-motor EQA 250 locally at the moment.
Both the Mercedes-Benz EQA and EQB were revealed in 2021 as electric counterparts to the combustion-powered GLA and GLB. The pair of electric SUVs and starting to receive more competition Down Under in the form of the Tesla Model Y, BMW iX1, Hyundai Ioniq 5, and Kia EV6, among others.
Mercedes-Benz EQA
The updated Mercedes-Benz EQA has an refreshed black grille area with a star pattern, a revised front bumper, and different tail lights.
There are also new alloy wheels designs ranging from 18- to 20-inches, and new exterior paint colours.
Inside, there’s a new steering wheel with touch-capacitive switchgear, brown lime open-pore wood panelling, as well as illuminated Mercedes-Benz logos.
There’s also an updated version of the MBUX infotainment system which has an new user interface, over-the-air (OTA) updates, and includes wireless Apple CarPlay and Android Auto.
The optional Burmester surround sound system now features Dolby Atmos, which is claimed to give music “more space, clarity and depth”.
There’s a new mono-multipurpose camera and a new reversing camera, revised active lane-keep assist functionality, as well as updated parking systems.
Globally, the Mercedes-Benz EQA is available in four different variants. Only the EQA 250 and EQA 350 4Matic are offered locally at the moment.
The EQA 250 and EQA 250+ are both powered by a single electric motor producing 140kW of power and 385Nm of torque, mated with high-voltage battery packs measuring 66.5 and 70.5kWh, respectively.
The latter now has a claimed WLTP range of up to 560km, which is an increase of 20km compared to the pre-update model.
The EQA 300 4Matic is powered by a dual-motor all-wheel drive setup producing 168W and 390Nm, whereas the EQA 350 4Matic’s produces 215kW and 520Nm. Both of these variants have a 66.5kWh battery pack with a WLTP claimed range of up to 459km.
Mercedes-Benz EQB
The majority of the changes the EQB receives mirror those given to the EQA.
The EQB, in five-seat guise, can be optioned with an electric tow bar that swings out from under the tailgate, and ESP trailer stabilisation.
The maximum braked towing capacity for these variants is 1400kg for single-motor variants, or 1700kg for dual-motor all-wheel drive variants. Both have a towball down limit of up to 80kg.
Globally, the Mercedes-Benz EQB is available in three different variants. Only the single-motor EQB 250 and dual-motor all-wheel drive EQB 350 4Matic are currently offered locally.
The Mercedes-Benz EQB 250+ is powered by a single electric motor producing 140kW and 385Nm. This is fed by a 70.5kWh battery pack with a WLTP claimed range of up to 536km.
The EQB 300 4Matic and EQB 350 4Matic have dual electric motors with system outputs of 168kW/390Nm and 215kW/520Nm, respectively.
Both of these variants have a 66.5kWh battery pack with a WLTP claimed range of up to 448km.
