Tired of store-bought lip balms filled with questionable ingredients? I was too, until I discovered the perfect solution. I’ve always been a fan of DIY projects, especially when it comes to natural beauty and health. So, when I came across the Simply Earth Lip Balm Kit, I knew I had to review it. Let me tell you, making 50 natural lip balms was easier (and more fun) than I even expected while being quite economical.

This DIY lip balm kit came with everything except for a kitchen scale. You really don’t need it, but according to Simply Earth’s directions it helps with accuracy. I don’t have one and my homemade lip balms turned out just the same. Also included is shea butter, lip balm container, beeswax, orange (sweet) essential oil, spearmint essential oil, almond oil, and cetyl alcohol.
Now for the making! The instructions are straightforward, but here are a few tips I picked up along the way. Make sure your tubes are properly inserted into the tray before you start melting anything. Trust me, but it’s much easier this way!
When melting the ingredients, use low heat and stir frequently to prevent burning. Patience is your friend here.
Something else to keep in mind is not to overfill the lip balm tubes. Use the spatula to scrape away any excess lip balm from the top of the tray before removing the tubes. This will give you a clean, professional finish. If you have some excess and don’t want to waste it, use a clean, small clean jar to store it.
For this lip balm recipe, refrigeration is the key to helping the lip balms set completely. Don’t try to rush this process if you intend to have these lip balms maintain their shape.
Making these lip balms was a multisensory experience. The rich, creamy texture of the shea butter, the subtle sweetness of the almond oil, the warm, comforting scent of the beeswax melting is quite therapeutic for relaxation and a bit of self-care. Then, the burst of citrus from the sweet orange essential oil, balanced by the cool, refreshing spearmint. As you pour the mixture into the tubes, you can practically feel the smooth, emollient texture that will soon grace your lips. The entire process is a treat for the senses besides what soothing relief with such moisturizing ingredients can do for dry lips. This was my first time making lip balms, but I intend to continue.
If you haven’t ever made homemade lip balms or a Simply Earth subscription, I suggest giving this DIY Lip Balm Kit from this review ($49.99) a try. Honestly, you’ll love the healthy lip pampering ingredients that you’ll be applying and save money when you compare the price of what you were buying with this lip balm making kit.
