MG ranks #12 in Spain in June.
New car sales in Spain gain 13.3% year-on-year in June to 101,085 units, leading to a half year total up a strong 24% to 505,421. Note however that H1 2023 volumes remain off -27% on pre-pandemic H1 2019. Private sals are up 8.5% to 38,574, company sales up 1.9% to 37,812 and rental sales pull the market up at +48.8% to 24,699. The year-to-date situation is even more glaring for rental sales up 70.1% to 100,391 while private sales are up 15.2% to 203,998 and company sales up 17.2% to 201,032.
In the brands ranking, Toyota (-13.1%) stays on top despite falling significantly year-on-year with Volkswagen up two spots on last month both in June at #2 (+5.1%) and year-to-date at #3 (+12%). Kia (+12.1%) and Hyundai (-6.3%) are also up two ranks on May to #3 and #4 respectively. Renault (+8.9%) rounds out the Top 5 ahead of Seat (+29%) rallying back up year-on-year but down from #3 to #5 year-to-date. Peugeot (-11.7%) and Dacia (-20.7%) fall hard whereas Audi (+28.9%) and Citroen (+19.8%) soar. Below, MG (+892.7%) breaks all its records: ranking (#12), volume (3,663) and share (3.6%), outselling such established brands as BMW, Skoda, Fiat, Ford and Opel.
Model-wise, the Dacia Sandero (+2.3%) lodges a 5th win in the past 7 months with 2.8% share and accesses the YTD top spot as a result, dislodging the Seat Arona ranking #3 for the month. The Fiat 500 (+1.1%) surges 12 spots on May to #2 while the MG ZS (+675%) progresses further at #4 with 2.2% share and only 606 sales from the pole position! The Toyota Yaris Cross (+92.9%) is up five ranks to #5, its best ranking so far this year. The Renault Clio (+60.4%) and Seat Ibiza (+37.4%) also beat the market in the remainder of the Top 10.
