Spring beauty is all about minimal, glowy, fresh-faced looks. If you want to go for a soft, monochromatic look, you can use your favorite lip product on your lips and your cheeks. To do this in a super delicate and pretty way, Miranda Kerr mixes her go-to lipstick with a dab of face oil to make a custom cream blush.
“I’m using the Ilia Color Block Lipstick in shade Marsala, and I put a little on the back of my hand here, and then I add a drop of the Noni Glow Face Oil,” says Kerr in a video on Ilia’s Instagram. “And then using your finger, you just mix it together here and add a little bit to your cheeks.”
The star of Kerr’s custom cream blush, Ilia Color Block High Impact Lipstick ($28), has a ton of pigment and loads of skin-loving ingredients. It heroes a blend of apricot seed oil, castor seed oil, and mango seed butter, which makes it super moisturizing on its own. But by adding a drop of the Noni Glow Face Oil ($28) from her skin-care line, Kora Organics, Kerr is able to sheer out the formula so the color isn’t too strong while adding even more moisture for a super glowy, lit-from-within hue. It’s made with noni extract, rosehip oil, and jojoba oil, which work together to nourish, brighten, and smooth out uneven or rough skin texture.
Follow Kerr’s routine to a T to get the same look, or test it out with your favorite lipstick and face oil. And when you’re choosing a lippie to try this out, think outside of the box. Because you’re adding oil, the color will be a bit sheerer and more hydrating than the original lipstick formula—which gives you carte blanche to try a shade that you may not have initially considered. If you want it to be sheerer, add more than one drop of oil. If you want it super concentrated and pigmented, skip the oil altogether and dab the lipstick on your cheek as is.
Once you’ve got your desired cheek look, Kerr says “you can add a little more of the actual [lipstick] to your lips.” Wanna go full-blown monochromatic? Dab a bit of your concoction to your lids as well and finish off with a hint of mascara. You’ll have a full look done in about one minute and be ready to start your day.
