Modern Infiniti Imaginative and prescient Qe idea previews model’s first EV

Infiniti has been hinting at an electric vehicle for years and it looks like one is finally coming.

The automaker on Tuesday revealed the Vision Qe concept, a fastback hatch that previews its first showroom-bound EV. A crossover counterpart, which will be previewed separately by a Vision QXe concept, is also planned.

The Vision Qe features the latest evolution of Infiniti’s Artistry in Motion design language, and adopts details that Infiniti may use to distinguish electric models, like a grille that extends down into the front fascia, and light bars spanning the width of the vehicle both at the front and rear. The lightbars feature a motif that Infiniti refers to as “digital piano key” lighting, and will flash a sequence to welcome the driver as he or she approaches.

No details on the Vision Qe’s powertrain have been revealed.

Timing for the production version also hasn’t been revealed, but information detailed at a dealer meeting last summer points to sales starting in 2026. The electric hatch is expected to fill the void of the mid-size Q70 sedan which bowed out after 2019. The crossover counterpart is due in 2027, according to information from the same dealer meeting.

Both EVs were teased in 2022, when they were confirmed by Infiniti for production at Nissan’s plant in Canton, Mississippi. Related Nissan models will also be built at the plant.

Infiniti has been promising an EV since 2009, which the automaker first previewed in 2012 with the reveal of the LE concept, a compact sedan based on the platform of the original Nissan Leaf. After dropping plans for the LE, the automaker committed to developing extended-range EVs before making its current commitment to conventional battery-electric EVs.

Infiniti presented the Vision Qe at an event in Tokyo, where the automaker confirmed three additional models. These included a redesigned Q80, a coupe-like crossover called the QX65, and the electric crossover to be previewed by the Vision QXe concept.
