Daiwa has announced a new trolling reel that shows their ongoing commitment to “muskie” or “musky” anglers. The new Prorex LW LC reel is their newest level wind, line countered predator trolling reel made with big water and big predators in mind. This is made in answer to the rising popularity of trolling for Muskie in the past few years. Trolling has been proven to be a great technique due to its ability to cover large swaths of water in search of muskies. The solitary nature of the fish makes them usually very spread out in the large lakes, reservoirs, and rivers they inhabit.
The new Prorex LD LC has been designed to hold up the high-strain task of trolling for big predators. Built like a warhorse with an aluminum frame and side plates and is available in two sizes. The large star drag on the handle side of the reel lets anglers easily adjust the Daiwa Ultimate Tournament Drag (UTD) even when fighting a fish. The reel’s clutch is easy to thumb for quick in and out of free-spool. The spool of the reel is made of machined aluminum and can hold up to 450 yards of 40lb J-braid line in the 30 size reel.
Lastly, the Daiwa Prorex LW LC features a direct drive built-in line counter on the top of the reel. This gives you precise numbers on how far back you have set your troll. So once you do get that bite, it is easy to just check the numbers and reset the troll accurately. The Prorex LW LC pairs well with 8- to 9-foot muskie trolling rods, like Daiwa’s Prorex series of muskie rods. MSRP for the reels starts at $239.99 for the 30-size reel and $249.99 for the 40-size reel.
