New Toyota LandCruiser 70 Sequence ‘shorty’ snapped

Toyota’s updated LandCruiser 70 Series short-wheelbase off-roader has been spied in the Middle East and Japan.

According to a video posted on Instagram by Kurdistan_automotive_blog, the 2024 Toyota LandCruiser 70 Series will be available with a short wheelbase version – at least, in markets such as Japan and the Middle East.

We’ve reached out to Toyota Australia to confirm if the short-wheelbase version of the LandCruiser 70 Series will be offered locally.

The video shows a white three-door off-roader wrapped in plastic around its bonnet, and wearing a brown decal which stretches along the length of the vehicle.

Based on Toyota’s United Arab Emirates website this decal is fairly common throughout the LandCruiser 70 Series range.

Like the bigger LC70 revealed on August 2, the shorty wears revised styling including new a front-end design inspired by the LandCruiser 40 Series.

A Twitter post has also surfaced of the new ‘Cruiser being transported on the back of a truck, possibly in Japan.

Based on photos from the Twitter post, the three-door SUV has colour-code fender flares and decals matching the white SUV spotted in the Middle East.

Oriba080 says there could be seven colour options to choose from in the 2024 LandCruiser 70 Series.

At the reveal of the 2024 70 Series earlier this month, Toyota said it will be introducing another powertrain option.

The 2.8-litre four-cylinder turbo-diesel produces 150kW and 500Nm of torque, and is mated exclusively to a six-speed automatic transmission shared with the HiLux.

The four-cylinder turbo-diesel will be offered across the entire range, while the V8 and five-speed manual will continue to be offered in every variant bar the Workmate Wagon.

Locally, Toyota has said the new 70 Series will launch in the fourth quarter of 2023 with pricing and full specifications expected to be released around the same time.

This is the first time Toyota has offered an automatic transmission in its 70 Series LandCruiser pickup and SUV.

Inside, the updated 70 Series features an updated interior with wood panel inserts along the dash and Toyota’s latest infotainment screen.

Toyota says the instrument cluster and centre console have been redesigned for “improved ergonomics, visual ease and practicality”, with a new 4.2-inch instrument cluster screen and an upgraded 6.7-inch touchscreen with wired Android Auto and Apple CarPlay.
