New York Metropolis is getting a brand new Kimpton close to Rockefeller Heart

When it comes to lifestyle hotels, few have as loyal a following as Kimpton. The brand is full of local flavor and trendy design, and it offers guests a real sense of place.

The brand’s hotels range from a hip property in Tokyo’s bustling Shinjuku district to a regal abode in London, plus full-on resorts like the Kimpton Seafire Grand Cayman.

New York City already has two Kimptons: the Kimpton Hotel Eventi in Chelsea and the Kimpton Hotel Theta in Times Square.

New York City will soon be home to a third Kimpton location, this time near Rockefeller Center in Midtown. It’ll be developed by Extell Development Company, which has a mighty hospitality portfolio that includes the Hard Rock Hotel New York and the W Hotel Times Square.

Set to open next year, Kimpton Rockefeller Center will be a 33-story hotel designed by New York City’s own SLCE Architects. SLCE is the architectural force behind some of the city’s other luxury hotel projects, like the Four Seasons New York Downtown, the Park Hyatt New York and the revamp that transformed the iconic Crown Building into Aman New York.

Interiors will be designed by INC Architecture & Design, whose New York City projects include 1 Hotel Brooklyn Bridge and the TWA Hotel at John F. Kennedy International Airport (JFK), arguably one of the most recognizable hotels in town — if not the world.

Like most Kimptons, the new Midtown outpost will feature multiple dining outlets, a rooftop bar (which is sure to have incredible skyscraper views, based on its location at 48th street between Fifth and Sixth avenues), a lobby lounge, a fitness center, and communal gathering and meeting spaces.

If things go as planned, the property “will be one of the finest hotels, with a robust food and beverage program as well as iconic views of Rockefeller Center and the city skyline in one of New York City’s most visited neighborhoods,” Elysa Goldman, senior vice president of development at Extell, said.

For points and miles aficionados, it will also offer another way to save on stays in the often unreasonably expensive city. Plus, the hotel will be central to major tourist attractions, Broadway shows, some of the country’s most magical holiday displays and major public transit lines that can help travelers reach every corner of the Big Apple.

If New York isn’t quite your flavor, there are currently 75 Kimpton hotels open, including our favorites, plus another 57 scheduled to open within the next five years.
